Zimmer x Street Tease | April 11 Tape

For ava. records, the sky's the limit, as you'll hear in the latest Carhartt WIP Radio show, bringing together a mix of house, techno, soul, hip hop, funk, jazz and disco. Established by the Cologne-based DJ and producer Damiano von Erckert in 2011, the label's roster consists of artists such as Christopher Rau, Ugly Drums, Andy Vaz, and Tito Wun aka Twit One (one half of Testiculo Y Uno that brought you the Carhartt WIP Radio Show from August 2013). The multicoloured ava. catalogue also includes musicians as varied as  L.A-based, neo-soul vocalist, Georgia Anne Muldrow. For Carhartt WIP Radio, Damiano von Erckert mixes a selection of old and new ava. records, special remixes, tracks from his latest EP “Giant Pandas And Other Nice Things In Life”, along with other rarities that will make hip hop heads just as happy as club music devotees.

Carhartt WIP Radio May 2014: Damiano von Erckert - ava. Radio Show

Our own Tim Garcia will be warming up for Tony Allen's 'The Source' (Blue Note Records) Album launch at the Jazz Cafe this month and has decided to do a 100 minute tribute mix to the master drummer. 

'The mix explores his early influences as a jazz drummer in Nigeria when he listened to Art Blakey, Max Roach and also Afro-jazz pioneer Guy Warren aka Kofi Ghanaba. 

It then goes onto him playing Highlife/jazz with Fela & The Koola Lobitos, the influence of James Brown and the birth of Afrobeat taking a look at his favourite time as part of Fela's band the Afrika 70 along with some of his solo Afrobeat material as well. (couldn't find a copy of his 1989 Afrobeat Express)

After his ten year musical hiatus we dip back into some of his more contemporary works 'Black Voices', 'Home Cooking' and 'Awa Na Re' are three very different examples of Mr Allen's ability to push boundaries. We visit his wonderful spoken word/spiritual jazz work-out in collaboration with Jimi Tenor and his 2014 release 'Film Of Life'.

The mix culminates in Tony coming full circle paying tribute to his hero Art Blakey and then releasing his first album for the legendary Jazz label Blue Note Records.'

“Kroz dvadesetak godina kopanja za dobrom mi glazbom i stilskog i tehničkog evoluiranja, nakon bezbroj mixeva raznih žanrova i nastojanja da je svaki koliko toliko poseban i da nema previše stvari koje se ponavljaju, taman kada već neko vrijeme nisam imao inspiracije za složiti nešto novo, javila mi se Tena s upitom da napravim mix za TITRACIJU. To mi je dalo volje da se potrudim prokopati po skromnoj kolekciji, probrati 80-setak stvari, te posložiti glazbenu priču i uz jutarnju kavu iz prve snimiti mix na nxs2 setu uz pokoju slatku greškicu. Kombinacija krasnih cinematičnih numera i finih stvari u 4/4 ritmu začinjenih svačim uhu ugodnim me veseli i nadam se da će nekom uljepšati pokoji intimni trenutak.”
