As the label turns 8 years old (old enough to drink in some 2nd world countries!), SMOG will be celebrating at the Regent Theater in Los Angeles with a heavy-hitting line-up. Additionally, 12th has put together a mix looking back on the development of the label's sound. "These tracks not only helped shape the label, but also had a significant impact on the landscape here in America," 12th tells THUMP. The mix is populated by familiar names on the SMOG roster lille Flinch, SPL, Protohype, Kelly Dean, but also reaches back to the nascent days of the scene.

For her ON DECK debut, Mija showcases what it is that's so quickly elevated her above the hoi polloi  – She's as comfortable working through stylish house tunes as she is dropping hip-hop influenced bangers as she is rinsing tearout jams, and all in one set. This collection in particular starts off with some sleek numbers by Durante, Jack Beats and Worthy before weaving through Troyboi and her own (+ Ghastly) remix of Diplo and then ends up with an epic Skrillexian tearout via SPAG HEDDY. Oh, and the whole thing was mixed live.

Two imprints from opposite sides of the Atlantic come together in 2015 in the name of 'BRSTL Hardcore' – the new, four-track EP from Brazilian-born, Bristol-based DnB producer, S.P.Y. Following a prolific year on his home label, Hospital Records, where he released his acclaimed double album totaling 24 tracks ('Back to Basics Chapters One and Two'), S.P.Y has collated four originals to be released via NEST.

S.P.Y (real name Carlos Lima) explored a darker, edgier sound in Back to Basics last year, reflecting on the early days of Drum & Bass in a noble nod to the old school. And while 'BRSTL Hardcore' carries on some of the redolence of the 90s sound found in the double album, the EP’s main attributes lie within the energy of the production, with S.P.Y concentrating on maximum bass levels aimed directly at the dancefloor. From the snarling punches in “BRSTL Hardcore” to the dramatic atmospherics of “Mass Effect”, the new EP from S.P.Y boasts a gritty, stripped back aesthetic that both DnB newcomers and longtime Hospital Records fans can equally appreciate.

With Bristolian dnb champions Total Science in tow, "Control the Sound" is a techy and challenging tune that brings ominous moods without the aggression, and that growling bassline will be haunting you for days.

The second release on UK producer Melé's Quadrants label is a dense, four-track tech EP from Callahan titled Fallacy. It maintains techno atmospherics, but houses a warped bassline and hi-hats on the ups that render it some genre-less clusterfuck of dance-able, dystopian aesthetics.

The first of two releases from Lockah's excellent Tuff Wax label this week is from Aberdeen based T_A_M. His Damned If I Do EP, from which we've got the titular track, is 5 cuts of minimalist 4x4 bashers that have 5AM warehouse rave written all over them in a genre he's dubbed "Aberdeen truth."

A break from all the headfuckery, Arp Aubert is head of the Mirau Musik label that's seen releases from Mano Le Tough and Tensnake. In fact, Tensnake himself used to be a part of the Arp Aubert project. The Moshislongo EP, released on Ki Records, is the classiest batch of feels you'll hear in a while. We're all about it.

Wiggity-wiggity-wiggity-wiggity-wop. Wobbly-wobbly-wobbly-wobbly-wop. Do we need to say anymore? You can joke if you want, but Casual Look's "Katey Siren" is all high-energy good times, a quintessential New Orleans bounce track that piqued Lockah's ear from way over the Atlantic (or at least from the other side of Aberdeen)

Druid Cloak's Apothecary Compositions has a knack for unearthing talent that eschews any sort of genre boundary, but the joint EP from B-Ju and Ticklish reaches way back when composing their sonic palate. This track in particular merges breaks and acid house tones into a wash of soothing, danceable vibes that'll have you nostalgic for an age you never lived.
