"Se ascolti menti, se parli obblighi a mentire"
Sound performance (turntable, cdjs, looper, NEG, and Vincenzo Agnetti recorded voice reading some of his poems from the collection Machiavelli 30 - 1978) 

The NEG was conceived and patented by Italian conceptual artist Vincenzo Agnetti (Milan 1926-1981) and then built in collaboration with the well-known electronics company Brionvenga in 1970. 
In the words of the artist, the NEG is a “pause detector”, “a pausometer”, an instrument for making “negative music”. Agnetti has, in fact, modified a stereophonic record player so that, in the absence of a sound signal, the machine produces a white noise that gives prominence to silence, to pauses in music or speech. 
After Archivio Vincenzo Agnetti reconstructed it, faithfully following the original patent and using period components, Gea Brown has been invited to compose a piece specifically designed to be conceived and performed together with the sound pause of the NEG.

This piece comes from Gea Brown's collaboration with Alessandra Piolotto, author of the project "Sancta Ratio Chaotica! L'ora felice in La Maggiore." 
At the intersection of archival photography and narratives, the project stems from the visualization of a sound evoked by a photo trouveé, crossing the writing of a story, the textile writing of tapestry and the plastic matter of metals, according to the Cymatics theories of physicist E. Chaldini (1787) and naturalist H. Jenny (1967).
