Really, the rise of the zombie in popular culture appears to be a direct result of the increasing pressure of acceptance. The new media now shows us humanity in even the most despicable individuals, rendering the concept of good versus bad obsolete. In this ever shifting ocean of gray, the zombie is a figure of pure blackness and malice: a psychological, and physiological, punching bag.
