MASTERVOLT is the upcoming New Release for the Groundbreaking group Defunkt on ZIP RECORDS/San Francisco. Defunkt began in the early 80's NYC Punk/Funk scene.  After a 35 year touring stint with various Defunkt ormations Joseph Bowie brings together the 1st Euro-based incarnation of Defunkt featuring Linley Marthe, Emma Lamadji, Jon Grandcamp, Rocco Zifarelli and Michael Lecoq. In 1980 Joe worked with Hungarian poet/lyricists Janos Gat to create the no-nonsense awareness inspiring legacy of Defunkt.  Working now with artist/writer/lyricist Hilarius Hofstede Joe has written dynamic music to top his extraordinary career maintaining his aspiration to be the people's musician of truth and awareness.  "Itchin'", a song originally written but not recorded by Joe Bowie in 2004 for his group "Kosen-Rufu" symbolizing his transition/migration from the US to a permanent resident in The Netherlands EU.  The direct-in your face lyrics of Hilarius Hofstede and the great work of the musicians and singer Emma Lamadji give this song new life!

2019 was the year he decided to share his solo project with the rest of us and has been delivering quality content, not just on his own label, ever since. Many of us got to know him as one half of the British duo Spectra Soul before they decided to go their own musical paths.

Formed in 2008 by vocalist Rachael guitarist/bassist David, Tics started to demo material with a view to recording an E.P. They started working with one of David's previous collaborators Pete Pick, as the main lyricist. Pete's unique style, coined the phrase "Post Ironic" (a reaction to the labelling that seems to dominate late 20th and early 21st century popular culture). His lyrics were very much drawn from Rachael's life experiences, and were personalised with additional words from her.&#13;
Looking for a suitable producer, they enlisted the talents of Russell Simins founding member and drummer of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, who has also worked with Tom Waits, Elliott Smith, Yoko Ono, DJ Shadow,  Beck,  Chuck D, Fred Schneider (B-52's) and Tiny Masters of Today, Harper Simon (Paul Simon's son). Russell met Tics at a Tiny Masters show in Brighton and after hearing demos was suitably impressed.&#13;
The resulting songs 'New Gun'and 'Margins' were recorded in New York with Russell producing. After successfully completing the recording, they returned to Brighton and recorded a demo of 'Slow Down'. The band parted company with Sam and started to move in a new direction, using more technology, and became effectively a duo. The resulting tracks 'Fizz' and
'Slow Down Lover' are the the last tracks recorded, as the band have been pursuing other projects.
