NOTE DE PROGRAMME
Moondraal Moondru: Ce titre tamoul signifie Trois fois trois (ou Thrice Three, traduction plus juste, de l'anglais) et réfère à la structure formelle de l'œuvre, divisée en neuf sections de trois types :
- trois trios, qui explorent la mélodie et l'ornementation inspirées de ragas de la musique carnatique.
- trois sections rythmiques, aux inspirations diverses.
- trois « moments » qui réfèrent à des souvenirs sonores précis vécus en Inde.
1. Trio bois : trio pour flûte, hautbois et clarinette. 
2. Korvaigal : se superposent, à plusieurs vitesses, des constructions arithmétiques rythmiques élémentaires.
3. Shatabdi Express : une halte de train, entre Chennai et Mysore. Des femmes chantent dans un wagon voisin. Un train passe. Des vendeurs ambulants scandent leurs slogans. 
4. Trio carillon : trio pour glockenspiel, xylophone et piano.
5. a) Koodiyattam Beats : section rythmique évoquant le mizhâvu (membranophone) et le kuzhithalam (petite cymbale) instruments accompagnant le koodiyattam, une pratique millénaire de théâtre dansé, originaire de l'état du Kerala. 
6. a) Agonizing Dhuryodhana : représentation nocturne de koodiyattam. Un extrait du Mahabharata. Dhuryodhana en pleine agonie. 
5. b) / 6. b) Besant Nagar Dogs : après la performance, les rythmes du koodiyattam persistent dans ma mémoire. Quatre heures du matin. Des chiens aboient. Aucun rickshaw en vue. 
7. Stumbling Konokol : section rythmique inspirée de courtes bribes de konokol pour débutant (technique de percussion vocale).
8. Trio cuivres : trio pour trompette, cor et trombone.
9. Dasaswamedh Ghat : Varanasi, ville sainte. La pooja du soir aux rives du Gange. 

PROGRAM NOTE
Moondraal Moondru: The Tamil title, which can be translated to Thrice Three, refers to the formal structure of the piece; 3 times 3 types of sections: 
- Three trios, which explore melodies and ornamentations inspired by Carnatic music ragas.
- Three rhythmical sections, with different sources of inspiration.
- Three “sound pictures”, which refer to precise sonic memories I have experienced in India. 
1. Trio bois (Woodwind Trio): Trio for flute, oboe and clarinet. 
2. Korvaigal: Different arithmetic rhythmical constructions are superimposed, at different speeds
3. Shatabdi Express: A train halt between Chennai and Mysore. Women are singing in a nearby coach. A train goes by. Vendors chant their slogans. 
4. Trio carillon (Chime Trio): Trio for glockenspiel, xylophone and piano.
5. a) Koodiyattam Beats: Rhytmical section evoking the percussion instruments, namely the mizhâvu (copper drum) and the kuzhithalam (small cymbal) which accompany koodiyattam, a traditional form of danced theatre from the state of Kerala. 
6. a) Agonizing Dhuryodhana: Nocturnal koodiyattam performance. An exceprt from the Mahabharata. Dhuryodhana in full agony.
5. b) / 6. b) Besant Nagar Dogs: After the performances, the koodiyattam beats persist in my memory. 4 am. Dogs are barking. Not a single rickshaw in sight. 
7. Stumbling Konokol: Rhytmical section inspired by short phrases of beginners konokol (vocal percussion technique)
8. Trio cuivres (Brass Trio): Trio for trumpet, horn and trombone.
9. Dasaswamedh Ghat: Varanasi, holy city, evening pooja on the Ganges
