Germany’s Tilman inaugurates his new imprint Pleasant Systems this June with the ‘Adventures’ EP, featuring collaborations with Will Buck and Rhode & Brown. Mainz, Germany based producer and DJ Tilman has been dropping his twist on contemporary house over the past decade on labels such as Shall Not Fade, Life Is For Living and Quality Vibes as well as his own Fine imprint, run in collaboration with Johannes Albert. Here though, Tilman marks a new beginning with the launch of Pleasant Systems, a new imprint designed to shine a light on vintage inspired house sounds from both himself and friends. Up first is ‘What’s Mine Is Mine’, a collaboration with Brooklyn’s Will Buck which lays down an amalgamation of airy synth pads, choppy bass stabs, bright piano lines and enchanting flute like melodies atop a swinging drum groove. ‘Strawberry Fields’ follows, stripping things back to shuffled percussion, billowing ethereal textures and wandering sub bass tones while fluttering brass tones and resonant leads ebb and flow within. ‘Velvet Park’ opens the flip side, this time joining forces with Rhode & Brown, embracing a classic sound with raw crunchy drums, delayed piano chords, bumpy bass stabs, cinematic strings and brass hooks throughout. ‘Lovin'’ then rounds out the release, dropping the tempo, featuring the voice of Tilman himself and laying focus on off-kilter organic percussion, twinkling resonant tones, eighties tinged synth chords and g funk moog style bass to perfectly conclude Pleasant System’s debut...

Continuing the verve of his old skool 90s garage-intoned releases on his very own Pleasant Systems label, Tilman's newest spans dreamatics, whorling deep stabs and saturated toppers; with just the right ratio of sizzle, body and booty to make for a full collective somatic ecstasy.

Fine are very pleased to present Tales And Reactions, the inaugural long player on the imprint by label co-owner Tilman. Alongside his partner Johannes Albert, the guys have put together an impressive string of releases so far on Fine, focussing on their own material. But this sees them moving into the extended format for the first time and with magnificent results.

Tilman has a long track record of putting out deep, excellently produced house music, but on Tales And Reactions he really comes into his own. The album is all about mood and feel, and each track is set up with a rich mix of samples and loose drum grooves to create warm and hazy vibes. The focus is on deep and spacious house cuts, weaving lazy pianos and half heard vocals. There are, however, plenty of dancefloor moments on the LP, with the chunky rhythms and disco strings of “Broken Dreams” or the filtered funk of “Chasing Rainbows”. The result is an album that takes you on a journey through different shades of house music, from a superb producer.

A firm favourite here at Bolting Bits, Tilman has had a busy 2018, providing us with new goodies almost on a weekly basis. Thankfully, the German producer shows no signs of slowing down, starting the new year with a blissful Tales And Reactions LP.
