Only a few years ago an unknown producer released his inaugural track which flew up the Resident Advisor and Beatport charts, something usually done by an experienced producer under a fresh alias. Sable Sheep however cut his teeth in the heavy metal scene and his heavy percussive house pays tribute to the likes of Slipknot and Bury Your Dead. In a mere two years the German newcomer has played major events including Barcelona’s Sonar and ADE in the Netherlands. His work has been championed by the likes of Marco Carola, Matthias Tanzmann, Luciano and Loco Dice as well as emerging on the catalogues of Moon Harbour, Be As One, Defected and now the latter’s sub-imprint DFTD with this release. ‘Constitution EP’ employs the energetic tactics increasingly associated with the German’s work and the title track is an avid demonstration by layering a groovy hook, soulful lyrics and looped wailing vocals

Enter the all-encompassing universe of Everything, a score by Ben Lukas Boysen and Sebastian Plano – available worldwide via Erased Tapes on July 28th 2017.

Game creator David OReilly has built an interactive world for you to explore at your choosing. Whether you decide to take the role of a microbe inside a plant in the desert, or a star in the furthermost galaxy, each layer of the game is coated with ambience which takes the simulation even further into the limitless boundaries of each world. Composers Ben Lukas Boysen and Sebastian Plano have shaped this experience with their intricate 4-hour soundscape, alongside the continuous narration by philosopher Alan Watts. 

Though the score has an important part to play in heightening the atmosphere of the game, it has the capability of being a standalone album – carefully sequenced down to a 10-track selection by label founder Robert Raths. There is a considerably therapeutic quality about it, allowing the audience to transcend into a meditative state, which is what makes it a perfect partner for Everything. The music is a whole world of its own, yet part of the game’s universe.

“Composing something quite modular yet coherent that connects with the idea and fabric of the game was quite a task. We discussed many approaches, from really mathematical and direct, to abstract and philosophical, and we ended up with a mixture of both. Every element depends and builds on another and connects to previous and following songs. May it be on a compositional or on an abstract and conceptual level, the game and the music follow the same path and shares almost the same inspirational DNA.“ — Ben Lukas Boysen

"Working on the soundtrack has been a truly inspiring collaboration. What fascinates me about the game is the self-exploratory approach it allows the player to experience; there is no purpose other than just being. This concept gave us wonderful freedom in searching for sounds and ideas that would fit the game. Throughout the score there is a subtle level of drama which gives depth to the game, yet the music never becomes predominant taking the player away from the main experience of being anything. South London producer Ben Hauke takes a sonic excursion to South America via Lewisham for a new seven track release for Far Out Recordings. While littered with Afro-Latin percussion, and samples of obscure Brazilian, Cuban and Colombian records, Only Old stays true to Ben’s distinctly London identity, with a record that fluctuates between house, broken beat and instrumental hip-hop. 
Having collaborated with the likes of Nubya Garcia and Joe Armon Jones, Ben Hauke stands at the electronic end of London’s new jazz movement. Currently working on new releases with more of a focus on live instrumentation, Ben titled the release ‘Only Old’ as it leans more heavily on his foundational approach to music making: an idiosyncratic, almost brazen sampling style in productions bursting with personality.  
Always full of character and style, Hauke’s productions have seen him likened to Theo Parrish and Madlib, with an altogether physical approach to sound. Title track ‘Only Old’ is moody broken beat with eerie sampled vocals and piano. ‘Get Up To Get Down’ is a light n’ breezy summer house stepper, while Brazil-inspired ‘Runners’ sounds as if it was made for MF Doom. 
Only Old will be released on 180g Vinyl and digitally 20th July. Sleeve design by fellow South London based artist Samuel Lloyd.

MUSHROOM HOUSE is the Toy Tonics‘s series for indie-afro-weirdo dancemusic. On this compilation you find the 11 best tracks: Guest producers Kiwi, Harry Wolfman, Hugo Capablanca, Art Alfie from Studio Barnhus and Vito & Druzzi from New York‘s Throne of Blood made these unusual tracks for the Toy Tonics series. Red Axes, DJ Sprinkles, Joe Claussell contributed remixes. There is also Italian fashion designer Marcelo Burlon featured on one track (the wonderful Mammaraccho by The Barking Dogs). I’m Johan!
23 years old and just moved to Copenhagen, Denmark. I have been making music since i was around 12, I started out doing Hip-Hop beats and then later came into the electronic stuff. My musically influences is mostly from non-electronic music, I listen to a combination of jazz, funk, disco and rap. This tune feature a bass sample i found on a fusion record, then i started to fool around with a random chord progression and simple laid the drums unquantized down. Lately i have been really into fusion jazz, the more funky side of it and this was my attempt to combine it with house music.

This superb offering from the mighty label Quintessentials, sees Glaswegian producer OOFT! (Ali Herron) mix the aptly titled track ‘Freak-E Groove (Proto House Mix)’. This chic 80’s disco moment of synthy splendour is a party piece - a fabulously fitting way to dance into the labels 10th year releasing bangers from artist all over the globe.

O0FT! expertly layers his music, with the use of echoing husky vocals breathing in at opportune times, sounding trim and crisp. Exploring the avenues of disco music, he places claps and high hats perfectly across the page whilst keeping the cowbells going along with the classy groove. The distorted sirens that build and form out of a curved synthy line subtly emerge creating a trippy mirage of sound as you move through the melody - bringing together an artist and label who understand and deliver raw deep house music every time!

Swedish imprint Omena Records have long been advocating a shrewd A&R policy, with recent releases by the likes of Books and Casino Times very much indicative of the fact. For their latest, they switch their attention to fellow Brit, Harry Wolfman. A man whose sound is steeped in rich house textures, he boasts credits for the likes of Dirt Crew, Toy Tonics and even Strictly Rhythm, his is a way of working that’s very much in line with Omena’s own penchant for dreamy, lucid and always intriguing house music.
