Ten years ago Eddie honed his craft with a residency at Geelong’s most infamous Pub, The Nash. Through regular five-hour sets, he honed his DJ skills with journey-inflected sets rarely encountered before in the town once dubbed Sleepy Hollow. Since then, he’s been hosting parties such as Mutant Dance, Tilt Shift, and Sonic Therapy while holding down guest spots/residencies at Revolver Upstairs, Lucky Coq, Captain, Geelong Hotel, Xe54, New Guernica, Boney, The Gaso, Lounge and much more. Eddie knows his way around a DJ booth or two, with call-ups to support artists such as Phil Kieran, Funk D’void, Magda, Mike Dunn, and Techno mainstays Juan Atkins, Jimmy Edgar, Dave Clarke, and playing after Jeff Mills in a rare Geelong show. His sound is inspired by Ron Hardy infused with Optimo - and given his broad, eclectic taste, his deejay sets are just as unpredictable.

Tilt Shift is an Event Brand Managed and Curated by Melbourne Artist Stockholm Syndrome. 

Tilt Shift sits firmly left of center, a difficult-to-label square peg that unintentionally fails to fit a pigeonhole. Borrowing from the photography term, Tilt Shift refers to two different types of movement, a selective focus with a large depth of field used to control perception.  This can be applied to our music policy, tilting the vertical axis resulting in a sharp area of focus without reducing the depth of field.  The selective focus that can be achieved by both tilting and shifting movements, It's compelling because the effect is different from that which you may have become accustomed to.  This movement is often used to avoid the convergence of parallel lines, or as we have come to think of it, it’s where the lines blur.

For almost 20 years, James Steer has consistently and unassumingly contributed to the after-hours soundtrack of Melbourne. Well respected within the underground Melbourne DJ community, James has built a reputation as a selector who deftly balances exquisite taste with technical execution. James cut his teeth as one of the founders of the legendary Deep Chord Melbourne parties in the early noughties, showcasing the emerging deep minimal sounds of the time to an eager and receptive audience. The party started off as an intimate affair in the confines of the upstairs space of Pony Bar (later Boney), before finding a true home in the legendary basement space of the Mercat Cross. Since then, James has regularly graced the decks at some of Melbourne’s most iconic nightspots, equally adept at delivering funk and disco laden suppertime soundtracks as heaving excursions into deep dance floor dynamics. Drawing from a vast, genre-defying collection, James’ sets offer the listener/dancer a guided tour through the fundamentals of depth, always evolving and never stagnant, a glimpse into the now, with a respectful nod to what’s come before.

Tilt Shift has been operating in Melbourne since 2017 facilitating events at a variety of the city's most reputable late-night haunts like Revolver, Boney, Section 8 & New Guernica. In this time we have hosted & toured artists such as: Marvin & Guy, Curses, The Hacker, Tronic Youth & Timothy Clerkin


Tilt Shift endeavour to promote an environment that feels safe and welcoming, somewhere which you don’t have to wrestle with the struggles of the day. No racism, sexism, homophobia or any discriminatory attitudes will be tolerated. We also care that the music is good and genres are blurred. Put away your phone and dance with us.

His latest project is Supermercado Records (a joint venture with Shannon Briggs) a Melbourne label which is an outlet for his own productions and for unearthing sounds he is passionate about.
