A product of Oxford’s prolific creative community, @ChadValley has a catalogue that spans three studio releases – 2010’s self-titled debut EP, 2011’s Equatorial Ultravox, and the 2013 LP, Young Hunger.

Now, two years later, @ChadValley's Hugo Manuel is back with his sophomore album, Entirely New Blue. The record is an exploration in identify and a return to the places that comfort us, especially when we return to them a different person.

The album was written between London, where he lived for years with his long-term girlfriend, and Oxford, the town that he came home to when their relationship ended. That painstaking transition is evident across the album’s nine tracks, perhaps mostly on slow-burners “Labasa” and “Seventeen”. The former of which is the namesake village in Fiji where his grandmother was born.

Unlike previous material, and embodying the spirit of the music, Hugo’s voice appears higher in the mix and rinsed clean of effects on most tracks. Similarly, the production is starker, providing Hugo the space to do more with less. Working with producer Joel Ford, the ethos of stripping away everything that’s not essential is apparent.

🥰🍌🌹LA disco maven LUXXURY (Blake Robin)'s first original song since lockdown 'Don't Give Up (I Believe in You)' is a fresh, funk-infused fusion of 'Forget Me Nots'-style Rhodes, infectious bass, dusty lo-fi beats and a simple, uplifting mantra-like vocal delivered by Robin in his gorgeous falsetto. Striking an optimistic note for the new year, LUXXURY says: 'I've been home for nine months and like all of us it's been a rollercoaster of emotions. This is the first new song I’ve finished in over a year, and the lyrics just poured out of me when I started recording: I truly surprised myself with my own optimism! I feel like this song is a gimmer of hope near the end of a dark period.'

When 2020’s lockdown required LA-based disco king LUXXURY to put his legendary all-stems live remix DJ set on hold, he doubled down on production, with nearly a dozen remixes and collabs and five original singles hitting official Spotify playlists like Crate Diggers and Serotonin; features on KCRW and even a spot on Magnetic Magazine’s top 25 disco songs of 2020. In addition he put out an official Splice pack, a Toolroom Academy Masterclass and 4 sold out 12” vinyl releases AND found the time to go viral on TikTok, garnering 175k followers in just a few months on the platform. With another XBOX placement in the works 2021 is shaping up to be even better with more dusty disco releases on the way and, with any luck LUXXURY will be back DJing from Tulum to Delhi again.
