I Am Not The Only One (Cover)

Summary: 
When I was in Primary School, I’d often fantasise about adventures throughout time and space, thinking of myself as an adventuring boy, travelling across the galaxy with my trusty puppy-companion, Rusty (or Ruffles, I forgot).

I sought out to relive those reveries through the art of a synthetic, instrumental soundtrack. Using synthesisers to dictate my sci-fi daydreams was optimal and only a natural instinct. I wanted to bring out the “day” (technically no days in space) of a galactic, adventuring soul.

Differentiation Factor:
Instead of organic instruments to illustrate the journey of a boy travelling through space, I used synths and normal sounds, to express the sci-fi sensation of an extraordinary journey.

At the end, I used a simple space-rumble audio, an audio of snoring, and a melodious, spacious synth patch to illustrate the end of a hard-days’ travel.

Delivery Strategies:
It all revolves around the use of audio I dug up from Splice and Logic’s synthesising capabilities. Using the audio to depict the spaceship, the dog and the young boy, and the synth to illustrate the inorganic, unnatural world of my sci-fi fantasies.

Separating the track into four sections, the first being the start of the “day” where the audio files are used to set the scene. Second being the synthesisers telling the  first half of the day, third being the second half. The last tells of a tired young boy, falling into deep slumber with his puppy, awaiting for the next journey to come.

Space Adventures

Summary:
The song is about how things aren't what they seem to be on the surface. How people try to hide their imperfections with perfect facades.

In the song, it speaks of a beautiful person, whom as the song progresses becomes more of a stranger and alien, rather than being expected as someone whom the composer use to "know".

Delivery / Differentiation factor:
The excessive use of pitch correction is intentional to create a false sense of perfection. Beneath the perfect pitch lies the ugly imperfections we try to hide. 

The long introduction is put in place to represent the entry from the superficial level, through all the noise (represented by the vocal effects), right into the real-ness of the heart.

The heavy harsh bass is used to represent the "shocked" or sudden realisation of discovering the truth about someone not being who they really are.

Elevator Music

Summary:
this piece is centric around the idea of the journey of a relationship. This reminds me strongly of people i would not let go of. Like in any relationship, the start can be quite awkward, and sudden, then the middle is kinda smooth sailing as we get to know each other better, then the ending is semi sad, or like open to the unknown, like the type that plays at the end of a movie when they anticipate the future, like a friendship or relationship, which we can't tell what the future brings. The piece overall has some melancholic feeling to it, where the fear of losing the people you care about. With the piano and cellos playing together at the same time, with different melodies, it represents the two people.
The piece is kept short and with sudden moments that represents the thoughts of the person and the memories with their loved ones in their heads.
I ended it with the thought of what the unknown may bring to the future of the rs, and that shows that i will not and never let go of the relationships i cherish

Prow Piece #3 - melancholy

Summary: 

This piece is a instrumental musical depiction of war. (Inspired from blackshot theme) When there is war, houses, infrastructure, lives are lost and destroyed. This piece musically depicts the journey of what happens during war and the ending of war . This piece is also focused on the death of people during war and the agony in the aftermath of the war. 

Differentiation Factor 

This piece specially focuses on the death of people during war. The word “funeral” came into my mind when I think of death. Unlike other war pieces out there , they rarely focus on the funeral part when someone die during a war. I thought by highlighting the funeral part (using the Chinese traditional way) would make the piece more unique 

Delivery 

During war , there will first be sirens (and you will hear that in the beginning of the piece). After that, I used percussive arpeggiator synthesiser (heavy tom with reverb) for the background to give the war vibe. I also added bomb explosions to  make it sound more like a war. After that comes the strings part where I played a line of sad melody over it to further give the war feels. Next comes the tragic death funeral part. I wanted to use Chinese traditional funeral (inspired by the ones I always hear at my void deck when theres a funeral ) to bring out this death idea. I used many gongs, Chinese drums , Tibetan singing bowl (DONG), Chinese, indian kit to create the funeral feel. I also added samples of women crying( with increase reverb) behind to mourn the death of her loved ones. I then added played some scary sounding pad using lots of minor 2nd and augmented 4th intervals to increase the tensions .

AFTERMATH (prow 4)

Summary: This song is about wanting to understand things, like religion, love, happiness, or just life, but weighing out that the consequences are not worth it and the effort needed is too much because you're not wise enough and you really lack drive. For the instrumentation i was inspired by a short excerpt of lonely lonely by feist on the american pleasure club tape 'i blew on a dandelion and the whole world disappeared'.

Differentiation factor: The melody is just arpeggios, that is quite weird. Since i was inspired by a tape there was a lot of noise which worked really well with the song so i added in some really low white noise. I really like the way the white noise pairs with a shaky voice for vocals so i did that as well, i added quite a bit of reverb to everything and as well as a bit of distortion so it will sound like the tape i was inspired by.

SUMMARY/THEME  : Chinese Alien 

This week piece is about Alien invasion. Not just normal alien but CHINESE ALIEN. 

Differentiation Factor: 
Many times when we think of alien we will think that they speak a different language or is their own species by themselves . However, I thought to myself what if Aliens are Chinese and they speak Chinese. I think that would be pretty cool and funny if one day Alien invade the world with Chinese cheom sum and speaking chinese dialect to one another. The differentiation factor here is that to break the mainstream thinking of Alien being a whole total different species but imagining it being Chinese aliens and fusing Chinese music into a alien theme piece have never been done before. 

Delivery: 

Since this piece is about Chinese alien , I thought by speaking Chinese would be suitable to bring out the Chinese feels. However, instead of speaking Chinese, I thought by speaking in dialect would further bring out the Chinese vibe. I also added monster, alien effects with reverb to make it sound scarier and spacier. I then also add in “alien music” at the beginning to reinforce the alien vibe. I also added different instruments and even MIDI military drum beat to bring out the alien invasion feels. Since its about CHINESE ALIEN, I decided to play a melody line over the piece with a Chinese instrument - ERHU
At the end of the piece, I again add in the “ALIEN MUSIC EFFECT” to remind listener of the alien feels.
