This is a mix that came out a few months back via the Electronic Music Culture series Atmospheres. It flew under the radar a bit so I thought I'd repost it here. It features a handful of artists who continually inspire me. The mix is anchored with the field recording of Champignonsdesbois and is called The World Is Full Of Noises.

Based in South West UK, Greig Baird debuted with the Moss Covered Technology alias in 2016 for Eilean Records. His works are inspired by the ideas and aesthetics emerging from the observation and experience of natural landscapes and environments, creating unique atmospheres. Since his debut, Greig has gone on to release ambient works for some prestigious labels reflecting his music taste, such as Hibernate Records, Polar Seas Recordings, and Dronarivm.

Hello folks! After a stressful string of long delayed vinyl releases, it is a pleasure to be doing a CD release again! This Bandcamp Friday sees the release of a wonderful album from Swedish collaborative Matti Bye Ensemble. This is a darkly imagined soundtrack to the cult 1926 silent film, “Haxan”…itself a mysteriously bizarre expose of the medieval witch trials and the inquisition. Recorded from a live performance film screening at the San Francisco Silent Film Festival in 2010.

Glåsbird's A Sonic Expedition series continues, arriving at the Himalayas as the destination for the 6th album installment of this global exploration. For those of you who are unaware, this is a project for this anonymous producer to explore far-flung geographic themes over the course of 10 albums. The series began inside the Arctic circle, moved into Scandinavia and surrounding area, onto Siberia and in this second half, it emerges in the highest mountain range on earth. It moves from expansive open landscapes and onto a new theme of treacherous peaks.

Himalaya was created as a fictitious film soundtrack, tracking the struggles and triumphs of a climber as they embark on and summit an unspecified mountain. The album begins with an ancient quietude, follows to snow-damped hikes before it delves into high-altitude ascents, with the music becoming ever more dramatic and at times, triumphant. The album closes with a descent, as the music gradually softens again but it carries with it, a sense of weary achievement.

As usual, Glåsbird has spent hours trawling archive film footage and documentary series' as well as studying the terrain, through old maps and Google Earth. The album package includes photography by climber Jay Whiting, with the front, inner and rear images taken in the Himalayas during an expedition. Inside the sleeve, you'll find some words provided by Neil McRoberts which give a poignant reflection on the Himalayas themselves, and the symbolism of mountains as a mammoth challenge. There is much to be discovered from a struggle and we hope that in some way, this record can provide inspiration, encouragement and some kind of peace.

Sustain Series returns for its third iteration, bringing together ever-more artists for another showcase of recycled music. Reworks and newfound collaborations make up this 27-piece album, demonstrating what can be achieved with ‘one’s trash and another’s treasure’.

The world is undergoing severe social and political changes in a short time that has taken individualism to the far extreme.

For this reason Possible Distances is a reflexion on the gap between human relations and everyday life; distance and closeness. The immediacy and the small personal moments that make us feel even more alone.

Written in the distance, Cordero and Otero build a bridge between their recording studios with minimalist melodies wrapped in luminous skies to enhance common places while nature takes its course.

After Salinas (Archives, 2020) and Distension (Playneutral, 2021), this work together brings us the kindness of small daily details.

DAVID CORDERO & MIGUEL OTERO - Everyday Things

This album is a collaboration between Gallery Six (sound), D.R. Taylor (artwork) and EiramsAccord (essential oils).

The title is derived from a common expression “catch the flavor of the original”. It is in the things we see and hear without thinking that something important, forgotten and despised, lies hidden. It is just like unraveling the sourcebook. I produced this album in the hope that actually coming into contact with the disparaged sounds, flowers, and scents of these objects themselves will make us more aware of what is important and provide us with an opportunity to reconsider.
