The title of Mikael Lind's latest album, Unsettled Beings, is a reference to his restless self. After completing his 2012 album, Felines Everywhere, in the spring, by fall he had already written a couple of new songs, and on his Iceland Airwaves gig in November that year he performed nothing but new material. Constantly trying to develop his sound, Mikael makes sure that his followers never hear the same concert twice. The material he played at Airwaves last year constitutes the backbone of the album which is now being released.

Mikael is Swedish, but has lived and worked in Iceland since 2006. The interesting thing about his new release, is that all the people involved in realizing the music are also foreigners living in Iceland. Paul Evans from Greenhouse Studios played the violin and also mixed the album. Ryan Karazija, who is doing very well in Iceland with his band Low Roar, lent his vocals to four of the tracks. Alex Somers from Riceboy Sleeps, producer of several important new musical acts in Iceland, mastered the album.

The basic idea of the album is a core of several different pianos accompanied by a lush pattern of violins. The pianos are of varying character, and their melodies often intertwine in a poly-rhythmic fashion, giving the listener the option of letting different melodies compete for attention. Ryan's vocals add warmth to the songs, ornamented with Paul's violins - sometimes in a call-response aesthetics.

The album is being released by the San Francisco label Time Released Sound by the end of August. Time Released Sound is well known for the ambitious artwork of its founder Colin Herrick, who recently went to Iceland especially to work on the artwork for Mikael's new release.

I am happy to announce the release of my 2nd original piano album! I consider the pieces included in this album to be my best compositions, recorded in 2013. The album has some tracks, which are not included in this set.

This is my  submission to the second part of 'The Piano Clouds' (TPC) - 'Ebony and Ivory' Challenge (initiated and hosted by https://soundcloud.com/simon-reich), which involves creating a piece using only the black keys on the piano (yikes! hehe). The first part of the Challenge involved creating a piece using only the white keys ('As the Garden Grows'). This 'black keys'  piece was originally a piano solo improvisation, but I wanted to learn more and add some more FX and instrumentation, so I'm not sure what it is! The piano is still dominant for the Challenge, whilst I tried to incorporate a more 'ambient' mood. I'm now looking forward to listening to all the submissions for the Challenge, as I've only had a chance to listen to a few! :-)

Clocks are fixed, orderly systems that can be understood by reducing them to their simplest parts. Clouds are, however an 'epistemic mess...' that are 'highly irregular, disorderly, and more or less unpredictable.' This adage was used to illustrate the dilemma of both science (and, I think in daily life) to approach all things as though they were clocks. We want to give nature (and people) a blueprint. But this approach is destined to bring nothing but frustration. The cosmos, its phenomenon, and people are much more like clouds than clocks."

The title track from my debut self-released in 2012. The track is a biographical piece about the small pockets of time and space in which we (wife & I) had to pursue our creative dreams.  Also with the small moments of hope, progression and fulfilment in this, often writing or composing in the corner of a bedroom in the small hours. Now we have children this has become even smaller and yet we find we do more writing than ever before.
