2023 has been a great year for Bradley Hutchings aka Guava. Alongside many successful dance singles and remixes, his self-released debut album ‘Out Of Nowhere’ is a gorgeous blend of indie electronica that steps away from his typical club focussed productions. 2024, however, sees Guava move back towards the dancefloor with his latest EP Afterglow, which drops on Faux Poly on March 8th. Since rooting himself in Berlin, Guava has drawn inspiration from across the different facets of the city, something that is strongly reflected in this release.

The opening track ‘Angel’ is a dark trip, born out of experiments with reverb and guitar harmonics influenced by UK Bass and Dubstep, an ethereal techno track described by the artist as “guitar music for Berghain”. Next up is ‘140 Drums’, an essential DJ club tool, a chopped stuttering break and hoover bass roll through a restrained but surprisingly heavy hitting finale to the EP. 

‘F641’ accelerates with continuously pitching synth stabs and a rumbling low end. Inspired by F1, the track hits hard and never stops ramping up. Finally the title track ‘Afterglow’ brings a lightness and warmth to the release, delicately catchy and rooted with a bouncy house beat, the sound of Berlin in Guava’s productions is unmistakably clear.

GTEP04 excitingly welcomes german producer Kid Kun to Ghosttown Records. These three productions beautifully display Kid Kun´s personal take on modern, UK schooled techno hybridity. “Creep” introduces the listener to an industrial soundscape, spiced by eerie vocal chops. It’s undeniably dark, but powerfully driving energy continues to evolve with “Recharge” whose grimy claps fuse with thundering basslines. “Saturn”, finally, takes Kid Kuns sound to the faster paced realms where it hypnotically nods at DnB infused steppers. To round off the EP in style, Berlin based Cocktail Party Effect takes on “Creep” and transforms it into the ultimate uptempo roller. All through, a powerful display of high-end dancefloor-tools. GTEP04 is out 24th of May via Ghosttown Records.

Following on from the House-infused punch of her Peach Discs release in June, Bristol’s Daisy Moon treats us to a shapeshifting debut on Timedance - entering a new era with a splash sure to be felt in most abyssal zones.

‘Shadow Of Silhouettes’ showcases a singular exploration of tough yet scintillating sounds, between wiggy electro, bass-laden grooves and inspired bursts of FWD techno-pop.

In this diverse body of work, Daisy’s vocals are the glue tying things together. They appear like sonic silhouettes, abstracted through sound design and unveiling a taste for the experimental. In other moments they are stripped from their abstract form and float above the surface, revealing Daisy Moon’s blossoming talent for ear-worm melodies.

We are proud to present ‘Undercurrents’, the third series of compilations featuring artists from the 3024 Mentoring Program.

Started in 2020, the Mentoring Program run by label owner Martyn has become a worldwide online and IRL community of artists sharing resources, ideas and inspiration. This compilation showcases the wide range of fresh and amazing music that is continuously surfacing from the program, unbound by strict genre definitions.

Besides a collection of new music, Undercurrents is also a consideration of what a record label can be in 2024. Whether it’s a platform for repurposing old material, providing daylight for new sounds, artists or even entire communities, or injecting new ideas about authenticity and sustainability into the current of the underground, rather than partaking in the unwinnable race over algorithm dominance. An understated approach for maximum impact.
