Ronnie Spiteri brings some new, serious summer heat on his own Kenja Records imprint. The Southampton local has been busy during lockdown, working on a heap of new music for his own imprint, with some class collabs and remixes to add to the mix. After the first gig back at Fabric this last weekend, 2021 looks to be shaping up nicely for the humble house producer. 'All I Need' delivers pure peak time pleasure as one would expect from the exciting UK based DJ/producer. Expect serious bass synth filth action here, driven by a pounding kick, tight percussion and sweet female vocal. Class. A proper banger! 'Relentless' is the flip side, AA side nugget that goes deeper into tech as it layers lush pads, a shuffling techy groove another wicked vocal. On remix duties is none other than Josh Butler! World-class in every way his remix is groovy, a journey into deep tech with super tight percussion, a funky bassline, rolling percussion and trippy fx'd pads. Essential Kenja listening for the summer ahead.

‘Glutes’ is peak-time material without being overly fast or chaotic, the energy instead coming from the transportive arrangement and emotive melodic content. The same can be said for Bäumel’s ‘Surge’ on Kompakt, an anthem in the sets of Tale Of Us last year which led to this release.

The title track rises and falls, surging with wide-sweeping synth notes and a steady rhythm to anchor the waves. An infectious refrain pulls you further in and, right on cue, the kick drum continues to beat the sweet spot. ‘Engage’ is filled with similarly subtle details, uplifting arpeggios and atmospheric reverb. Half-way through the melody bursts into life, shining brightly through the haze and creating one of those moments of release that make the Afterlife sound work so well on a dancefloor.

Barnt and Stephan Bodzin, two artists whose stand-out performances at recent Afterlife events have made them firm favourites with the crowds, are tapped for the remixes of Tale Of Us & Vaal's latest single 'Monument' (AL006). They both take on the title track, Barnt opting for a rolling, percussive direction and Bodzin more ethereal and transportive. For the digital-only third contribution, Adriatique (the Swiss duo of Adrian Schweizer and Adrian Shala) give the drums some extra punch and cloak the vocal in spacey reverb.
