Atmospheric no-wave post-punk. Dark goth vibe but with simmering UK punk energy (they're from Germany). Impossible to look away. They flipped the 80's dubby basslines to coincide with airy synthlines. Algebra Suicide meets Kleenex/Liliput.

Klapper - "Born to Obey" (2021)

Synth and drummy post-punk by two annoying people—not my quote—from, I don't know, Berlin? Yes, this bedroom project shows high aspirations of conceptual nihilism in a rudimentary collage way. The album title is a doozy—stoner humor. First you hear a helicopter, then a drumbeat, and a great use of spatial placement. The lyrics are about something too political and philosophical to expound upon here, but worth a listen.

High For No Reason

Klapper - "All Areas Of Life" (2024)

Highly anticipated release from the BuckBiloxi/GiorgioMurderer/BlackAbba/TrampolineTeam New Orleans camp of DIY Punk musicians. These Gonerfest mainstays have caused stress and dismay to many, and pure joy to few. This time, Betsy from Thee Tsunamis (Bloomington, INDIANA) joins in on guitar/vox. The result is a cracked-out version of 90's budget trash bubblegum pop with spaced-out synthesizers. Overlaid atop is a text of total immersion into the mind of a schizophrenic. The logic of capital is seen through the prism of cleaning products, the ultimate consumer symbol. The result is metaphysical. There is nothing stopping these 4-track combattants from conducting their weird science experiments on the unsupecting populace.

Pscience - "HCl" (2019)

Barbier has been recording and performing in Montreal for a number of years. Previous projects include Moss Lime (Telephone Explosion Records) and Phern (Fixture Records). As a solo artist, she makes strangely subdued pop w angular moves, and throbbing basslines. First single "The Good Thing" hit the spot with subtle synth and a surprising violin solo. This one here is  more shamrackle to keep things slightly misaligned. That misalignment is the point! DIY, no-wave, post-punk, funk, that slaps!

Oakland's Midnite Snaxxx go off-tangent here into Kleenex/Lithics angular-guitar territory. Yet, they sound perfectly at home. A sign that they are keeping track with zeitgeist sounds. Heads up! The world is turning, but the attitude is the same. Pure snotty rebels who "don't want that", but still got it! Pick up the record, it's extremely listenable.

*Update: Marcel Wave is MM Lyle of A Terrible Splendour, a synthwave post-punk project, with all the romanticism and doomed fatality of the genre. Marcel Wave had a prior incarnation as a synth-based project in 2018. But this new demo is strictly garage (bass/guitar/drums), and indie, with post-punk phrasings reminiscent of Suburban Lawns, Kleenex, Dolly Mixture, etc.. VERY GOOD,

Early raw punk energy, w drum freakouts, and a bass with a thumping tone. I mean, we can barely hear the guitar here, but I appreciate the suggestion. 

Could this be the equivalent of the Lomax recordings, but instead of blues, it's punks at some dive making their own version of no-wave?

This reminds me of Foams from Texas, if you know that also obscure record.  Collecting these one-offs from underground bands is its own artform.

Randy and The Randies - "Solar Myth" (1980)

New album from ex-Staches, Couteau Latex, Purpur Spytt, originally based in Geneva, now straight outta Leipzig, hence the title in German, which means "This Is Not Stealing". Indeed, this is not stealing, I am simply reposting what is available elsewhere.

Marauder has come a long way since its debut demo. Their bedroom synth-pop experiments have transitioned to jam space communal wizardry. Unpredictable but still bouncy, musical but still drony, machine but still human. This is the Power of Four as the title of the album says in French. A homebrewed synth-punk with advanced decorative punctuations. A beautiful mosaic in the decaying ruins of an ancient European city with graffiti on ramparts.
