Build was recorded on 4-track tape in Newcastle 1995. Bass was sampled for original Li'l Broken Brooch recording in 2001. This is a new remix of the original, using Flex in Logic to sync the original tape recording to a known bpm.

Mad On Monday

New song, new recording. Thought I'd get it out there before I start hating it and pull it to bits. The first part (before the Weird Sisters) was actually written many years ago, in 1993. I recorded the rough idea back then on 4-track (Yamaha MT2X) but it was never completed. Now it is, via Logic Pro,  for better or for worse!

As it now stands, the song represents my fight with cancer, and the seemingly never ending chemotherapy... "This battle is done, if only the war was over".

4-track tape demo from 1992 (aged 24), this is a parody blues song, taking the piss out of white rock stars who became millionaires off the back of playing the blues.  Features me on my Epiphone Sheraton, bass (though kinda lost), vocals, and my long time friend Phil Seymour on Fender Strat. Most impressive to me now, is my TR505 drum programme!

Big House In The Country (1992)

Well, this is an utterly melancholy tune from my early 20s - nicely representing the "black dog" that can bite at that age. It's a pretty rough demo (again, 4-track in bedroom), with some dodgy guitar at times, but there's something warm  and pleasing about it. It also features my flatmate Tracey Bedford, who wonderfully matches my own misery.

Theme Within Oblivion (1992)

Back in the 1980's there was a major psychedelic rock movement in Shropshire. Well, there was me and a the band I was in. That was about it, actually. This track I wrote when I was about 17, but the recording was made a couple of years later.  Yes folks, the psychedelic underground sound of MONTY'S CHILLUM (Tim Riley, vocals, bass / Mark Haseley, vocals, keyboards /  Dave Riley, lead guitar / Chris Allen, rhythm guitar)! Oh, the innocence. Oh the mushrooms.

A song I wrote in 1998 (about Nick Drake), around the time I first started performing solo acoustic stuff in Edinburgh. Just my voice and my acoustic guitar, and one of the last songs I recorded on analogue 4-track tape, before losing my mind in Cubase VST on a PC.

I've been writing, performing and recording music since the early 1990's, though since 2000, most of my work has been as Hoochie Fig, with creative partner Keith Paton (Hoochie Fig has its own Soundcloud profile -see the links above).

This space is for my solo projects, which don't fit into the Hoochie Fig bag; and for my pre-Fig music, which I am currently digitizing and  re-mastering from multitrack analogue tape.

So, they'll be some odds and sods appearing here, some of it pretty lo-fi. Hopefully though, it'll all be entertaining for one reason or another!
