10 releases strong, Poker Flat Digital has become an important wing of Steve Bug‘s acclaimed, cutting-edge label. Determined to keep quality levels as high as ever and offer yet more choice to the label‘s fans, a heavyweight cast starred in this latest chapter of the Poker Flat story.

This special 12‘‘ release gathers 4 of the highlights from the label‘s catalogue so far. 

First up to the controls is NYC new kid of the block MANIK. He gives us ‚Pure Liquid‘ in a freaked out wild-pitch affair 2011 style! His fresh production and new ideas give this a real modern feel, while the arrangement and raw drums keep it heavy for the club.

Daryl Stay‘s ‚My Groove‘ gets the Vincenzo treatment in this classic-vibed killer. Tough, pumping drums open alongside a soaring synth layer that builds into a rave siren of monstrous proportions!!
Jay Tripwire presents his ‚8 Channels‘ project with ‚Control‘. Its a deliciously stripped piece of future house. Bouncing, shaking and snaking, the freaked out vocal stands out loud and proud in this addictive number.

Finally the veteran skills of Russ Gabriel bring a twisted modern acid jam to the table with ‚Prey Tell‘. Sneaky, typically freaky synth lines intertwine amongst jackin drums and subtly building arrangements!

After the positive reactions on "Diablo", Oliver and I naturally decided to dive into a follow-up (with a rather appropriate title)! Not sure why we chose Spanish names but we seemed to be onto a good thing so we decided to keep nurturing those creative instincts. We had quite a few ideas going back and forth with this one, hence the two-part approach to the final version. Conceptually and with the working title, we wanted to take a lighter approach to this one, creating something less sinister than "Diablo" and I think that we succeeded nicely, helping to eventually take things into our "Elements" series. I should also mention how excited we were to have a brilliant Gaiser mix for this! - Dubfire

Following on from the dark intensity of Hash Bar Loops, Deepchord has continued to innovate and diversify his output. Traces of the previous album remain on this record but here, there is a lighter more ethereal feel.

Deepchord’s characteristic manipulation of space and time is still intact and is an integral part of Sommer’s soundscape. Modulating textures, sliding tempos, shifting rhythmic elements, and electroacoustics create a constantly evolving, vaporous sonic-tapestry.

Rich field recordings and proprietary processing methods (developed over 20 years of making such recordings) provide an impactful, living, organic element with flecks of percussion and bass pulsing from the soundfield. Atmospheric warmth and engrossing layers are expertly woven, many of the source-recordings were made on a beach near the artist’s home. Wind chimes, circulating air, and a marine sounds give this album a distinct identity rarely experienced in the sphere of digital music. A rare amalgamation of deep organic-atmospherics and dance music. A living breathing organism, quite unlike anything else. Light and aquatic feeling, with a few darker introspective moments later in the album, but it never gets foreboding or overly heavy. The overall mood here is evocative of warm summer evenings, and is equally effective on a PA with a crowd, as it is on the beachside with headphones alone. 

An August release date coincides perfectly with the album’s themes and will be a powerful addition when played out over the summer and on into the autumn as part of Deepchord’s thoughtful, expansive sets, which should be plentiful in the coming months.

After the Pruitt Igoe E.P, Kangding Ray returns with his third album for raster-noton, pushing further his explorations on the edge of digital and analog sounds. With OR, Kangding Ray continues to blur the borders between experimental and bass music, and brings his signature sound to another level, somewhere at the darkest fringe of club culture.
With the massive metallic beats of « athem », the frightening distorded waves of « Mojave », the elevated groove of « Odd Sympathy », the modulated guitar walls of « Leavaila Scheme », or the low-bitrate Everest of « La Belle », KR creates deep atmospheres, loaded with echoes of collapsing economies, dysfunctional political systems, and corporate alienation.In an abstract manner, OR depicts the desillusions of modern civilizations, while initiating a positive reflection on crisis as a creative state.
OR (« gold » in french), as the only chemical element that seems to keep its value for eternity, refers to the cult of endless consumption and the absurdity of fluctuating currency valuations, while in english, as a logical operator or grammatical conjunction, OR represents the possibility of another choice, an « inclusive disjunction » which suggests that there might be another answer, a different path to follow.
Noticeable inputs have been provided by Ben Frost, who composed a keyboard line for « Or », Rose Tizane Merrill who lend her voice to the anarchist poem « Monsters », and Magne Mostue who wrote the words and sang on « Coracoid Process » as well as the vocal version of the prophetic electronic mantra « Pruitt Igoe ».
