Phantoms Of The Asteroid - Matt Gray Remake Preview

This is my version of the classic C64 track Last Ninja 2 - Central Park. I put it on you tube a while ago and got a great response, so thought I'd put it here as well, as the audio quality is better on soundcloud.

Spent a lot of time trying to emulate the C64 sounds, used quadrasid to do this. Also thought it could really do with some kick-ass guitar and drums, so put them in as well. Used a lot of different reverb and delay - quite hard to blend SID sounds with live. I tried to keep the spirit of the original though, so no fancy stuff here, I just tried to imagine what it would have sounded like if the tech was better back in the 80s. Feel all nostalgic now...

Last Ninja 2

If you can remember the C64 golden era, you will remember Tim Follin and his hellbent SIDs. This actual tune is a conversion of the original Capcom game but it became a breathing, organic beast in Follin's hands. I heard some of the other platforms and Tim topped them all. 

Making this was a lucky roller coaster ride as my treble perception was reduced temporarily due to flu so I did not know what I was doing with the sound, plus a black cat stalked into the studio in the back and sat on a couch that I could not notice and a horror chasing-screaming-fallin-off scene was started as neither of us knew who is who and what is when the lights were off and I made a sudden move that scared the cat. Finally, I gave him some milk and we became friends. Cappy became our yard commander in the following 2 years until he disappeared suddenly around March of 2011. Rest in Peace, black boy.

Martin Galway - Arkanoid

A rock remake of my favourite computergame soundtrack originally written by Rob Hubbard. If you got your hands on a C64 back in the eighties then you might know it. Recorded in 2009. Visit remix.kwed.org for more C64 remix tracks.

The original song upload is still available on myspace.com/gammlmusik, but who uses myspace nowadays?? ;-) . All tracks including the guitars is recorded with Audacity, a PODxt, hydrogen drum machine and for sure my Gibson and VGN guitars and a Harley Benton bass guitar.

I made the guitartracks public available in the C64 remix community for some time back then, because I wanted to hear what other people - being more experienced with remixing computer soundtracks - can make of them. So - if you have listened to my version - you might as well find some remixes on the net that sound quite similar, at least when you listen to the guitars ;-) -  I lately discovered a remix using my sounds of DrFuture, which I really like. Maybe you want to check it out as well...  have fun listening.

C64 International Karate (Rock)

OK, I've never known what to do with this remix, so I've just put it onto Soundcloud. Here's the background - I did a remix of Hawkeye Subtune 11 (originally by Jeroen Tel) that was used as a bed in my old radio shows. Skitz said that we could improve upon it and Marcel got involved too with a kick-ass intro. I finished it off but never uploaded it anywhere. So eventually here it is - Hawkeye Subtune 11, originally by Jeroen Tel, remixed by Boz (whoever he is), Skitz and Marcel Donné.
