HE'S ONE OF OUR FAVORITE DJs OF ALL TIME... We welcome ANTHONY PAPPA to Super Progressive Radio!

At the age of 15, he won the DMC Mixing Championship, and by the age of 20, he moved from Australia to prove his talent on the UK circuit. At 22, his production Skydive took clubland by storm. At 24, he mixed compilations for Platipus and Renaissance, and at 25, he was named the first Global Underground Nubreed artist. He is one of the biggest legends in progressive house history, and his support of Super Progressive has meant the world to us.

Deep. Dark. Progressive. Those three adjectives captured a moment in electronic music that rippled through the scene like a sonic ideology. The sound emerged at the turn of the millennium and embraced its name with laser-like precision: it sure was deep, undoubtedly dark, and undeniably progressive.  

It’s a moment that Stuart McKeown and Darius Bassiray know all too well. As part of Melbourne’s Zero Tolerance crew and two-thirds of Depth Institute, they champion its contemporary incarnation, releasing on labels like Mango Alley, Sound Avenue, and, of course, Zero Tolerance.  

They also lived through it, making them perfectly positioned to pontificate on the scene. Aubrey Fry is a name making serious waves in the electronic music scene. Blurring the lines between progressive house, techno, and breaks, his sound is raw, hypnotic, and impossible to ignore. With releases on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth, John Digweed’s Bedrock Records, and Nick Warren’s The Sound Garden, we are pleased that he just collaborated with Nick Stoynoff to remix Danny Howells - Stereodrama for us at Selador, and you can here it here in the mix.

Once for ‘Once’ was never going to be near enough! 

With his own ‘Pure Mix’ scaling sales charts, assailing radio playlists and grafting hard on floors for DJs including Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Aly & Fila and Markus Schulz, Solarstone opens up two new mix-fronts for ‘Once’.
Everyone’s favourite trucker-cap-wearing trance-master Alex M.O.R.P.H. has put his studio boxes into overdrive, bringing an even clubbier angle to the single. Solarstone’s ‘Once’ collaborators’ IKO have also taken the track back into the studio themselves, to work on a variation cast in their own inimitable, standout style.

The mighty Mr. M.O.R.P.H. wastes no time putting ‘Once’ above the rim, delivering a floor-delighting slam-dunk of a mix. DJ Mag scored it an impressive 8/10, noting the German producer “bookends (IKO vocalist) Kieran Scragg’s bittersweet refrains” with “panning sub-melodies, heavily delayed/effected harmonic piano and sprinting bass”. The mag concludes that with “touch-paper lit, it only takes some visceral 303 to set the whole mix off!”

IKO meanwhile bring ‘Once’ a complete stylistic ‘mix 180°’. Taking Kieran’s authentic, affecting, living, breathing vocals, they give it a downtempo, soundtrack-worthy modification. Building from slow-mo break-beats and meditative piano notes, they deliberately, brilliantly raise its drama through shuffling percussion, live instrumentation, filmic sequencing and, finally, divinely uplifting chords.
