In which Dom and Andy, separated by the Pandemic and the English Channel for far too long, spend a short evening with some boxes and just press go and see what happens.

This is a live recording, completely unmixed, unedited and warts and all, of a jam that we had on Friday 8th October 2021. It consists of our respective Eurorack modular synths, a clarinet plugged into various iPad things (Gauss doing the heavy lifting), an analog four, analog rtm and bits of Pro3. 

Strictly for the curious and a taste of what's to come.

Smooth was established by Marco Köller from Wuppertal (Germany) in 2006 to seperate the progressive flavoured output from his other musical projects and to dive a little deeper into sounds and other musical genres. Meanwhile, Smooth has become a project for research in Dubtechno, Deep House, Garage House, UK House, Progressive, Drum&Bass and 2-Step, as these styles have been important influences in the bygone years. Marco Köller started DJing back in 1989 and producing in 1994, and since that time, he moved in many electronic music genres. Beside producing, mastering, sound design and graphic design, he operates the non-commercial audio netlabel CYAN that he founded together with Jaja.

April begins with another lovely ambient journey! Welcome to Echo & Rauschen!

Based in Potsdam, Germany, Alex is a music enthusiast and cassette collector with Estonian roots. Intrigued by tropical mysterious sounds, electronic soundscapes, and world music, Echo & Rauschen explores the realm of organic sounds in combination with deep ambient electronic vibes. Compiled between Autumn 2022 & Spring 2023, he prepared for us a musical odyssey of almost 3 hours in which you can lose and find yourself again.

The next track to uncover is 'Filter, Gradation, Centrifuge'.Imagine that the earth is a ever-evolving dub techno track and you were viewing or listening to it from the distance of the moon. This would be it! There is a tremendous distance that is created in this track where chords flow and move like clouds over large areas of distance.Sometimes, the best description is a visual one if it helps. Breathtaking! 'Stimulant,
Perspective, Sensory' starts the next piece of vinyl with another epic one. It morphs like a planet is being formed before your eyes. Basslines move like mountains while chords strike like distance thunder. The last side has 2 tracks sharing the side. 'Reflectance, Reverberant, Cortisol' and 'Predawn'. The first is a grandious ambient number that sounds heavenly while the last featured song is equally stunning as almost a reprise of a previous. Entrainment will be available on white 180-gram double vinyl as well as CD digipak and digital. These are all supersonic soundscapes to immerse yourself in! Masterpieces!

Quick and dirty experiment in ambient throwbackery, experimenting with a few new programming and performance techniques.  Everything is controlled on the fly through touchable and Konkreet performer.  No bus mix, eqs or the like, just straight out to 2-track. 

Clear hat-tip to Mixmaster Morris in his Irresistible Force guise. Flying High was one of the records that made me get into writing electronica, particularly Symphony in E with it's violin line for obvious reasons.  I was re-listening to it tonight and wanted to try something in that old school vein rather than what Loscil's The Making of Grief Point describes as the 'tight and perfect digital palace' of most contemporary ambient electronica. 

Made me nostalgic for the days of old AWM synthesis - the washy, raw pads and hypnotic simplicity.  Sometimes it's useful to understand where things have come from to explore where you might want to take them to.

Strictly for fun, not meant to be anything releasable.
