Following  in  the  wake  of  "Leland"  (2012),  the  critically  acclaimed  full  length  debut  by  label  founder  Francis Harris,  Scissor  and  Thread  is  proud  to  announce  the  November  18th  vinyl  release  of  "You  Can  Always Leave,"  Harris'  first  material  under  his  own  name  since,  and  the  first  hint  of  his  anticipated  sophomore  LP , "Minutes  of  Sleep,"  due  February  2014.  The  new  single  portends  the  mood  of  the  ensuing  album,  a  further foray  into  Harris'  signature  blend  of  house,  modern  classical,  shoe-­gaze  and  noise  which  is  the  artists  most ambitious  and  accomplished  work  to  date.  As  the  sole  dance  floor  moment  on  the  LP,  "You  Can  Always Leave"  picks  up  where  Harris'  cult  hit  "Lostfound"  left  off,  with  vocals  once  again  from  Danish  vocalist  Gry Bagøien  and  the  heartbreakingly  august  trumpet  of  No  Regular  Play's  Greg  Paulus.  The  remarkable  Terre Thaemlitz  delivers  an  epic  12  minute  remix  on  the  flip  under  his  DJ  Sprinkles  guise  which  is  sure  to  make this  12inch  a  sought  after  piece  for  house  music's  analog  enthusiasts.

For many years now Beats in Space has been one of the most definitive radio shows in leftfield dance and electronic music, it has acted as an outlet for an endless array of producers and dj's to showcase their talent behind the decks and has helped spread their reach internationally. It has of course been pioneered by host Tim Sweeney via WNYU and remains one of the most crucial platforms within the circle. 

Beats In Space has since been transformed into a prominent record label which has been responsible for the release of a large catalogue of material including features from Andras, Gonno, Tornado Wallace, Mount Liberation Unlimited, Powder and many, many more. The radio show has since evolved into a full bodied musical venture of which Tim should be most proud. It's no small feat. 

We got chatting to Tim a little while back who offered to record us a mix of label focussed material. Some upcoming, some new, some old It's all in there, as raw and exciting as ever. 

We are delighted to be able to showcase Beats In Space in such a capacity.

Guiddo returns to Beats in Space with Polish producer Grzegorz Bojanek and the elusive, iconic Rexy to conjure a tune that tunnels between decades, bringing the soft edges of English New Wave to the layered lucidity of modern pop for Narcissist.

The titular track’s bounce of low tones juxtaposes beautifully with Rex Nayman'ssoprano croon until she downshifts into a dagger of spoken word that strikes at pretenders and egomaniacs alike. Guiddo orchestrates dub-wise sounds from strings to synths that bring the composition to high(er) ground, weaving Bojanek's flourishes of plucked guitar through the mix for a welcome velvet staccato. “Narcissist” glimmers under a summer sun (even when gleaned from cool interiors) to gesture a shrug or a finger-flip at those egocentrics in charge.

Nayman and her bandmate Vic Martin crafted one record as Rexy in 1981, the cult classic Running Out of Time, that appeared like a comet in the London scene and earned the duo scores of admirers for its acidly ironic lyricism that described a city rotting with megalomania and disenchantment. The duo went their separate ways soon after recording the album, but Running Out of Time left an indelible imprint on the musical universe. In their first record in nearly 30 years, Rexy brings that same unsparing gaze to the modern sociopaths that creep through the world's bars, clubs, and bedrooms. Nayman’s choral arrows have found a 21st century target: "Who's your next victim? / Now that I've got away / Who are you gonna trample? / When they get in your way."

Narcissist follows Guiddo’s 12” with Georges Perin, Gin ‘n Tears, released on Beats In Space in 2014. A collaborative force unto himself, Guiddo shines brightest at the controls, creating a new pop classic across time and (literal) space with Bojanek and Rexy.
