@cinema-royale is a DJ who plays flawlessly, no matter the setting or style of music he reaches for. As a lifelong lover and collector of film soundtracks, he likes to take the weird and make it wonderful; to make out-of-context moments into transcendental delights. As one of Amsterdam's deepest diggers, he can put records together that no one else can and is part of the core Dekmantel family. In February, he put together his Profondo Nero compilation for the label and made connections between soulful disco, breaks, electro-rap, Balearic, boogie and much more in ways that only he could. 

This week he takes us deep across a superb two-hour mix. Rather than following the traditional arc of a DJ set, Cinema Royale is happy to pump the party with a glossy retro-boogie gem then pull back to dubby disco vibe. His sounds are always bright and big-hearted, the grooves uplifting and feel good. Like any decent movie, this is a fluid but unpredictable mix that will have you coming back for more time and time again.

These days, he’s the guy behind the scenes making sure everything sounds right, running a sound equipment rental business and working as a technical director for events. When he’s not untangling cables or saving shows from technical meltdowns, Anton (aka Toxx) is diving deep into his own music. He’s into building DJ sets that feel more like journeys than just tracklists—genre-fluid and full of weird, beautiful energy.

Comme Des Larmes invite Schwabe

Schwabe

UK based record label Weapons of Desire was born on the 30th November 2017. The brain child of three friends Alex Handley, Mick Clarke and Toni Aslam. Alex and Toni first met Mick two years before when they had a couple of Auto Sound City EPs out on Mick’s long running Flight Recorder label. 

The saying “Being around the block a few times” is an understatement when you look at the recording history of them all. Playing, making and releasing music all the way back to the 80’s (even further in Mick’s case) seemed like a natural progression when talking about a potential label and the vision they had before its creation using their recording names (Iron Blu and Auto Sound City) to make the kind of music they wanted to dance to. The ethos was and still is to release tough dancefloor publications as stated in the label description "Spinning an endless cable of steel sound".

Over the years Weapons Of Desire has released vinyl as single-sided two track hand stamped records, four track EPs, a couple of six track compilations entitled Machine Funk Vol. 1 and 2, double packs and an album. The label Is also now fully integrated with regular digital releases too.

31 releases and a total of 33 different artists, Weapons of Desire has a seat firmly at the table with more chairs added for 2025. Afterall without great music, life would most certainly be a mistake
