Its been a busy year for Vin Sol. After inaugurating his own imprint ‘Club Lonely’ in May, he went on to release two more EP’s.  
Now the San Francisco native is back again with his debut EP on Ultramajic. 

Although this is the first release Vin Sol has put out through Ultramajic you can’t help but appreciate their synchronicity, both the label and Vin Sol have an uncompromising vision for their work. Ultramajic’s overarching aesthetic and dedication to cutting edge, energetic house and techno and Vin’s lively veneration of old school midwestern jack tracks sit perfectly together. 

‘Instinct’ is a straightforward introduction to the EP, bleeps and a pounding kick drum carry the track to a frenzied finale. ‘1314’ ushers in a darker atmosphere, born out of a combination of simple elements Vin manages to twist and build a unique energy. In ‘Can’t Cope’ Vin utilizes a complex drum pattern to drive the track forward, never losing the momentum of the dance floor. Longtime friend Matrixxman steps up for a remix of the title track. Taking things back to basics Matrixxman strips it back for a pitched down minimal intro before reintroducing the bleeps and cymbals. Lastly, digital bonus ‘DTLW’ is a classic jacking beat, Vin plays with a vocal sample of ‘Work’ rounding out the EP to an infectious crescendo.

Five years after his critically acclaimed debut Drone Logic, London-based producer Daniel Avery has announced the release of his highly anticipated second album Song For Alpha, set for release on 6th April 2018

In the years since his debut, Avery has helmed a DJ-Kicks mix CD, resided over a monthly radio show for NTS Live, curated an extensive remix compilation and collaborated on a series of side-projects including a recent release with Nine Inch Nails synth specialist Alessandro Cortini; he has toured relentlessly, cementing a reputation as one of the defining techno DJs of the decade. He has also worked studiously on what he wanted to say next as a producer. 

Song For Alpha is Avery’s exploration of the space in which home listening and club music intersect, in no small part inspired by his transient life spent between nightclubs, flights, the passenger seats of cars and hotel rooms. He confirms, “Drone Logic’s spiritual home was the dancefloor. This record’s is definitely the road. Those late nights and hazy mornings, finding inspiration beyond the fog.”
    
With newfound energy and time to develop, Avery’s sonic vocabulary has expanded. Here, the booming sound of the big room is brilliantly countered by the music of the small hours. Where celestial ambient lullabies ‘First Light’ and ‘Days From Now’ sit perfectly next to the mesmeric techno assault of ‘Diminuendo’ and ‘Sensation’; where both ‘Projector’ and ‘Clear’ evoke early rave records, only ones engulfed by waves of beautiful cyclonic distortion. Much like his recent excursions with Cortini, Song For Alpha sees Avery take his signature psychedelic-electronic sound to new dimensions, a sound that plays to the head as much as the body.

“I’ve become increasingly interested in those moments in a club when the outside world becomes little more than an inconsequential thought at the back of your head. Eyes closed as opposed to hands in the air. A light emerging from the darkness - this is the idea I repeatedly returned to in the studio. The more time you spend with it the deeper you fall. Close your eyes, press repeat.”

Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Mullaert continues his acclaimed solo project with the outstanding ‘Broken Mirror’ EP.

Mule Musiq is a label with which Sebastian has had a long- term relationship, having presented numerous earlier works on the Tokyo based imprint. Over 12 years they have released for a number of acclaimed artists including DJ Sprinkles, Lawrence, Fred P, Henrik Schwarz and Petre Inspirescu whilst retaining a low key, but highly respected profile.

‘Broken Mirror’ arrives after 2 lauded EPs this year - ‘All The Keys Are Here’ and ‘Samunnati’ – on R&S sub-label Apollo and Default Position respectively, and precedes forthcoming shows at ADE, Village Underground in London and a solo performance at Brooklyn Mirage in New York. These continue from an impressive series of gigs this year including Berghain, Concrete in Paris, Freerotation, Freqs of Nature and The Block Tel Aviv to name a few.

“Broken Mirror and the Wa wu we interpretation of it were both made around a piano phrase that I recorded. The piano has a very central melodic position of the both version even though they are very different to each other.

The song called "Mirrors" is to me almost like a separate piece even though I made it as a remix to the original; working with the sounds and soundscapes in a similar way as when I remix other people's music. I think one can here an echo of broken mirror but the new elements are too prominent so I decide to give it an individual name. ‘Mirrors’ was made the week before my gig at Berghain in may this year, and my spirit was tuned in with my upcoming gig at the techno mecca.“ - Sebastian Mullaert

Radio Slave’s colossal ‘The Revenge’ track now gets expert remix treatment from Klasse Wrecks label head Luca Lozano.

Luca has also released on the likes of Optimo, Sex Tags UFO and Unknown to the Unknown and brings a raw, acid tinged sound to his beats. As a performer Lozano’s versatile DJ sets span between raw house, cosmic disco and dynamic breakbeat selections, which is why he’s become a regular at key clubs across Europe and tasteful festivals like Houghton.

His ‘How Bow Dis’ Remix’ is solid and features wild old school flavours in its huge drum breaks, a monstrous bassline and dark filtered vocals. It bangs for seven superbly heavy minutes with plenty of twists and turns along the way, and will transform any club or warehouse into a writhing, sweaty mass in seconds.

On the flip, his ‘How Bow Dah’’ version is based around elastic drums and rumbling bass while a loose synth line darts about up top. Some distant synths bring a sense of serenity to the madness and so despite the physical impact of this one, it also has real emotion to it.

When Paul Woolford adopted his Special Request alias again last year for the 'Belief System' album, we kind of lost our shit. The LP was one of our favourites of 2018 and once again cemented Woolford as a certified master of the scene.

At the end of the year we crowned Nina Kraviz as our DJ of the Year and ultimately it was an easy decision to make. Her sets are electric, her label, трип, is one of the most forward-thinking and genre-bending imprints in the world and her parties buck the formulaic trend that most follow.

When we found out that Nina was remixing 'Curtain Twitcher' by Special Request, we jumped at the chance to listen. When we realised she'd done not one but two remixes, well we were sold.

Here is the premiere of Kraviz's Alice Was Here remix and it's more of the brilliant same. A true meeting of magical minds.

The first two releases, 'Places' and 'Acid Acid', weighed in at three pieces of vinyl each, and showcased his two major musical passions: fragile deep electronica and acid house. TIN MAN has acclaimed releases on the Finnish record label Sähkö / Keys of Life, Cheap Records from Vienna, and continues with new releases on his own imprint, Global A . While TIN MAN's output is diverse in its references, certain underpinnings can be heard throughout. There is always a strong reference to Acid House music, as well as a strong reference to Ambient and Electronic Pop music from the past 30 years. TIN MAN's newer output features his voice and follows a "concept album" format. Thus, complete records are as important as individual songs. The songs tend to follow a simple structure with changes that grow slowly within motifs. Mood construction and story telling are both equally important. And with each new record, there are new historical references to tell different stories. TIN MAN also continues with his passion for Acid House by continuing to produce retro-acid tracks and playing live shows regularly.
