As WALA, I’ve had the profound honor and opportunity to travel the globe studying frequencies, cultures, and dance floors, and incorporating that influence into my music, resulting in a style that blends sounds like spices into a sexy, worldly sonic experience which I affectionately refer to as ‘Gypsy Crunk'. I aspire to take listeners on an acoustic journey and introduce them to new sounds, sometimes music I’ve created myself, other times not; it’s like a pursuit of an alchemy of frequency.

I heard about Burning Man in the 90's but didn't make it to the playa until 2005. Ever since my first burn, from the moment I arrived on playa for the first time, we listened to BMIR in the car in the ride I had found on craigslist (after I last-minute bought a ticket at a store on Haight St in San Francisco for around $200 3 days before the event). I had no idea what I was getting myself into I had a 2 person tent with a hole in it and no shade, but I did have a battery powered radio! BMIR has always played a central role in framing my window to the weird, bizarre, and hilariously whacky world of burning man, and will always hold a place in my heart, and has inspired so much of my own music over the years.

I met up with the BMIR crew in 2012 and have had my own show since 2013. Rather than exclusively play only music I’ve produced, instead I prefer to follow in the footsteps of my BMIR predecessors and play music, sounds, producers, and genres listeners may not have heard before along a musical journey.

And with all of that in mind, I made the following playlist of tunes I've dug around for or encountered in various ways, including many friends whose work inspires my own but whom listeners may not have heard. This is ‘feel good music’ to me, at a time when I feel like we could all use a little more ‘cozy’ in our lives, this playlist gives me all the good feels. Please enjoy with tea, and a pinch of playa if possible.

I close my eyes and I'm there, on tour with one of the bands that helped start this whole thing. Three guys pumping power and life into thousands of moving bodies. Swarms of beautiful girls swaying. I always dreamed of life on the road. Sweat. Summer. Sex.

My mind flashes. The Green takes the stage. These harmonies are mind-bending. The beat- hypnotic, pulsing. I'm so lucky to be part of this magic.

I open my eyes and head tilted back, I soak up Pepper's new single, "Start You Up" (The Green Version). I finally get my fix. Their 2013 self-titled album kept me pushing forward and since then I've been waiting for someone to take me back. I had been out of the game for two years when I was reintroduced to the scene by two of Hawaii's biggest powerhouses.

Pepper and The Green made me remember why I do what I do. I had forgotten the sound of laughter in a green room- what it's like to travel the country with close friends. They taught me how to tour again.

My gratitude is palpable as I groove to this track. Pepper has teamed up with The Green's Brad Watanabe to create something crisp and fresh, new yet familiar. Something indescribably and uniquely Pepper, with a twist of Green. It gets dirty, flowing through ambiance and dub, before being wiped clean and polished with a shine. Perhaps that's just what comes from putting these two together. IMG_6293

Brad welcomed the collab: "It was awesome to do this remix, I grew up listening to and jamming songs off Kona Town and always looked up to these guys."

As did I, as did all of my friends. Thanks for taking me back. Thanks for the memories of a time when I only dreamed of this life, and of a time when I was brought back to life through this music. Thanks for giving me something to dance to till next tour. I'll meet you at the next party. Catch ya on the road.
