‘Boompahpah’ gets things rolling with dense beats, a high-octane tempo and a choir-driven breakdown. ‘20inch Chrome’ is a madcap cut that uses a variety of hip hop-esque samples, sirens and a tribal chant. On the flip ‘Bitte Everyday’ utilises breakbeats and a mixture of rapping, chanting, and zany effects to enchant the listener. Finally ‘Like Trampolines’ features hefty beats alongside an incendiary riff that is sure to cause havoc on the dance floor.

28th Street Crew – O (Hi-Lux Remix) Ministry Of Sound 1995

Ministry Of Sound were one of the Labels in the bidding war for the Hi-Lux produced ‘Ultra High – Stay With Me’ track, but after MCA was the label chosen to release it, Ministry were then very keen for Hi-Lux to remix for them if they weren't to sign the Ultra High track. At this stage, Ministry were very much known exclusively for a particular American House/Garage style and the new ‘Hi-Energy’ UK style tracks ripping through clubs up and down the country hadn’t been signed or remixed on any of their releases at that point so I’m very proud to have been involved in talks with MoS A&R and being involved.

28th Street Crew was a side project of legendary producers Clivilles & Cole (C&C Music Factory), ‘O’ was originally a 122 bpm fairly down tempo classy deep house even ‘tropical’ track… not after a 136 bpm Hi-Lux remix !!

I always wondered what C&C thought of the remix… I guess there’s a good chance they absolutely loathed it being such a different vibe… who knows, maybe they were secret hand-baggers !

Fresh onto the scene is Amsterdam’s SOLIT, with a debut double tracker of wide variety. Staying true to its title is Patchwork; making a collection of genres, such as prog, trance and house, work together in unison. Dissonant stabs merge together with subtle vocal chops, while a driving bass line keeps the motion going forwards underneath. This collaboration with Aris, a similarly green producer from the Dutch capital, could turn out to be a unique glue between styles.
