Sonya Alvarez has been making a name for herself in her hometown of Detroit, MI. Alvarez uses techy house beats spun and cut in a hip-hop fashion to create a melodic, bouncy and exciting story for her audience to engage with. Her sound ranges when appropriate and includes genres like deep house, tech-house, bass-house, break-beats, & techno. She tests the crowd limits and challenges them to be as physically involved as she is, drawing attention to important builds and drops, and inspires the crowd with a good amount of footwork on her own. Sonya also has been known to play a fair bit of rap & hip-hop in her DJ sets.

Starting her journey in 2016, she has made her mark as an event curator / promoter and has focused on building up others in her community.
Sonya's skills are on par to have already shared the stage with some of her favorites including Shiba San, Boys Noize, Chris Lake, Pete Tong, MK, Destructo, Kill Frenzy, AC Slater, Roger Sanchez, Anna Lunoe, & Maala.

“A people’s DJ and a DJ’s DJ”, Sonya has traveled to places like New York, Philly, Chicago, Florida, Colorado, Canada, and other places in the midwest bringing her style right around to capture the hearts of friends and fans alike.

Sonya has lately started her own record label, Korner Kombo Records, with a bi-weekly mix series, live-streams, & productions.

Anyone who has seen Sonya spin live will tell you, she’s not messin’ around and she’s in it for the long haul. Detroit has long been a hub for electronic beat lovers and speaker freakers, but Golf Clap’s Hugh Cleal aims to lead a new generation. For nearly a decade, he’s hustled the project and its Country Club Disco label to the forefront of house music’s funkiest dimensions. The project (formerly a duo with Bryan Jones), works tirelessly to conjure a palpable energy, one fans can feel at every gig, be it a hot-and-heavy club set or an energetic takeover of a festival stage. Golf Clap feeds off the crowd, spinning the hottest songs of the moment while breaking new records - and this isn’t any press play, hands in the air fair. You're likely to hear a lot of cutting up between facefulls of funk and bass. 

Fueled by a relentless passion, when Cleal isn’t behind the decks, he’s likely pulling all-nighters in the studio. Bodies dancing in real-time is an addiction, but when it comes to original productions or high-profile remixes, Golf Clap wants to create something for every moment. Recent singles “Freak It Out” [Country Club Disco] “Mystery Scene” [mau5trap/Insomniac] and “Gravitate” [Toolroom] showcase their deft and dark grooves, while 2018 EPs  Vices  and  Machines  showcase club-ready attitudes. High-profile remixes for Zeds Dead and Illenium, Zhu and Tame Impala, Louis The Child, and Hotel Garuda give the music makers a chance to showcase stylistic variety. 

While 2020 has been a year of great change, Cleal has never stopped working. With loads of new tunes in the wings and a dedication to the Country Club community, Golf Clap is and always will be, in his own words, “about creating a community.”
