Cradle to Grave is about America’s twin obsessions: babies and
guns. It was written out of exasperation at the
draconian abortion laws passed by the Texas state
legislature in late 2022. In the very same year as
the Uvalde shooting massacre, in which twenty-one
innocent people were murdered, the state decided
that it was in everyone’s best interests to force
more unwanted births - only to have those lives
robbed a few years later in an elementary school.

This is the first general release of the song, which was recorded in May 2023 around the first anniversary of the Uvalde shooting. It’s a seventies-style rocker, a full-on protest song, my Ohio. Sadly, America continues to be alone in the developed world as a hellscape of gun violence— not to mention the potential setting of a real-world Handmaid’s Tale.
