For our 38th MBE transmission we welcome Soft-Touch Operation aka Ivan Turanjanin all the way from South Africa. Drawing inspiration from the complexities of classical symphonies right through to the raw industrial essence of electronic music, Ivan seeks out sounds and compositions that realign spaces and audiences with an eye toward the future. Magic. 

From curating small clubs to running large scale festivals, Ivan aims to re-enforce the rich traditions of electronic music history whilst lending the same passion to the advancement of underground music culture in South Africa and beyond with his various formidable event and music projects, namely @Ivan, @soft-touch-operation, @killer-robot, @dj-low-1 and @ctemf-1.

And so without further ado, a labour of love slowly begins to surface as soft-touch operation emerges somewhere between the shadows, with cerebral elegance crafting a luscious blend of low slung electro, dubious house and sinuous techno. Press play and enter the Hidden Realms...

Having been a longstanding fan of Grauzone and Stephan Eicher's early solo work, Headman/ Robi Insinna was originaly asked to remix a track a few years back.
The idea of doing a Reworks 12“ on Relish came later and the choice fell on „Nice". Which will also be part of the Reworks album coming next year.

Headman then enlisted the help of New York City’s Justin Strauss who played "Eisbaer" by Grauzone when he got his first copy after he just started his first DJ job at legendary Mudd Club, who set to add his touch to "Le Files du Limmatquai" along with his partner Bryan Mette under the (Whatever/Whatever Remix) Moniker.

The Cover of the release is a take on the original artwork from the “Nice“ 12“ US mixes Vinyl from 83', which is by Klaudia Schifferle from Swiss all girl punk band Kleenex, who had written and performed „Nice" originally.

The result is a classic sound with a smooth modern edge.

One year after his stunning debut on Relish with the aptly named Klub Psycho, French London-based dj/producer Mondowski is back with a new ep: Surfin Hell.
The eponymous track unrolls a mesmerizing technoid slo-mo psychedelia suffused with acid elements paralleling an out-of-space surf rock guitar riff which finally morphs into a Morriconesque western soundtrack clip. While Headman aka Insinna reworks the original track into a late nite club anthem, Sébastien Chenut, one half of Scratch Massive, takes us even further back in time with a brilliant dance-floor oriented remix which tapes into a distinctly eighties New Wave melancholia. Mondowski's second new track, Delok, turns out to be a totally different matter plunging deep into the uncompromising depths of leftfield club electronica. In short, full blast!

During times where sweaty dance floor grooves seem like a distant dream, the team here at The Only 1 is proud to announce TO1 Radio. This, will be our platform for sharing all things groove related. For our first project – the Wa’gwaan invite series – we’ll be showcasing weekly mixes from some of your favourite and soon to be new favourite techno, trap and hip-hop DJs. What we intend to do with this project is to bring you the dance floor to you wherever you are so that we can all divulge together into the amazing talent that is still brewing in Johannesburg and South Africa as a whole. And this is only the beginning. TO1 Radio will also be creating a discussion podcast series where we aim to shed some light onto Joburg’s ever-evolving electronic music scene. So you can look forward to interviews from some of your favourite groove legends and industry orchestrators to get the lowdown on everything. And by everything we mean everything, from your favourite front left moments, to your to posties chats that seemed to make sense, to your favourite artists and where they started. The TO1 Team hopes to create a dynamic space for you, the dancers, to stay connected and involved, and to find out what you have to say about the scene we all love and miss.
