Following his mixes on Classical Trax’s Jerome label, underground culture zine Disc Magazine and our very own TTM catalogue, Shanghai-based singer and producer Noctilucents presents a stunning two-track EP entitled Run With Me on Tobago Tracks.

Noctilucent clouds [night shining in Latin] are a strange phenomenon that occur high up in the atmosphere. Most visible at twilight, these stunning clouds shine eerily against the backdrop of encroaching nightfall. This meeting of worlds, and the duality between light & dark, aptly illustrates the musical work of Noctilucents.

‘Do Without U’ operates beautifully as both a melancholy and uplifting a-side. Wilting synths and percussion tread on as looped vocals breathe an indescribable optimism into the track. The vocal samples translating as ‘For some reason, I feel like I’ve been waiting to hear those words for a long time’ are taken from the anime ‘The Tatami Galaxy’, an explorative coming-of-age story set in a Kyoto college campus.

B-side ‘Run With Me’ is a reflective down-tempo dance cut that pairs the continually looped vocals sung by Noctilucents ‘say you’ll run with me girl’ against reflective chords. Much like the clouds, Noctilucents’ productions have a way of shining through the sadness, and are about finding moments of lightness in dark times.
