Here are the 10 records I selected for the Strawberry Fields 2024 application mix - vinyl only. Since this is for an opening set, I’ve chosen tracks that feel right for the time of day and the Australian bush environment—while still maintaining groove and energy to get people dancing.

Opening a festival the size of Strawberry Fields is no easy task. An opening set needs to lay the foundation for what’s to come without revealing too much, while still keeping the excitement alive. I aimed to capture the full festival experience in this mix.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.

Please welcome German DJ and producer Matthias Schildger aka Star_Dub to the pH and BuenaVida Family.

Matthias has been recording since the early 2000's.
Since his first production steps, Matt has developed his production skills and split his music into various pseudonyms. 

His most up to date sounds are getting released under the name: CNTRL, POLYFAN, POLYPHENIX, BINARY OPERATOR, STAR_DUB, MATT STAR but also works or has worked on limited projects like YAM YAM, STARBUG and some secret projects he doesn't like to mention anymore.

As passionate musician, he also is in high demand as a remix artist and is always busy creating new interpretations for other artists. 

These days Matt focuses more and more on sounddesign and
experimental music outside the club-context but also stays true to his roots in techno and house of course.

In today’s episode, we bring a very dear friend, Marcelo Godoy, a São Paulo native who has been living in Germany for many years, also known as TEMPOESPACIO. For over 20 years, Marcelo has dedicated himself to sound research, exploring rhythms and the cultural forces that shape music. His musical approach blends techno, experimental, and organic influences, always seeing music as a transformative agent that connects and moves people.

Through TEMPOESPACIO, Marcelo channels his eclecticism into a sound that reflects both his deep connection with club culture and a vanguard perspective on sound experimentation. His sets create a true tension between body and sound, exploring contrasts between rhythmic precision and spontaneity, repetition and disruption. More than a sequence of tracks, each performance is an experiment in movement and perception, inviting the dancefloor to listen with their body.

Whether in the heart of Berlin’s electronic scene or in independent spaces with strong cultural identities, Marcelo’s music pulses with a sense of discovery, reshaping how we listen to and feel music. His journey has taken him to some of the most iconic stages in Berlin, London, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Istanbul, and beyond, including Rave the Planet (the new Love Parade) in 2022. For RA.1000, DJ Sprinkles' first mix in over a decade is a powerful meditation on the genocide in Gaza.

Dance music often relies on simple narratives: release, escape, unity. But those narratives can often feel inadequate, and even at times, hollow. Or, as Terre Thaemlitz might bluntly put it, just "shitty."

For her first mix in around 15 years, Terre Thaemlitz AKA DJ Sprinkles, challenges us to think differently. "I felt this 1000th podcast should reflect the moment in which it was made," she told us in her Q&A.

And what is this moment? Every day since Israel's 2023 assault on Gaza began, an average of 28 children have been killed. That's an entire classroom, every day, for over 600 days (at the time of writing). It's a staggering figure that only captures a fragment of the listless cruelty imposed on the strip.

Faced with such a genocide, what can music really do? How political can it truly be?  For their RA.1000, Thaemlitz gives us an unflinching rebuke to the idea that music should provide escapism. The mix weaves ambient fragments and jazz passages, woven around samples from Israeli media and the voices of outspoken Jewish critics like Gabor Maté and Norman Finkelstein. 

The result is not just a protest, but a document of our time. For Terre Thaemlitz, music is never just music. Her RA.1000 serves as a reminder that in an age of relentless suffering, the most political act is to reject the illusion of escape, and search for something greater.

Foehn & Jerome are an Austrian duo who have been based in Berlin for over a decade. Their collaboration began in 2011 when they moved in together and launched the “Cafe Sturz” series at Vienna’s Grelle Forelle, where they hosted artists such as Zip, Sammy Dee and Vera.
After relocating to Berlin, they became residents at Club der Visionaere and in 2018 founded their ongoing event series Perfumed Freedom. Over the years, these gatherings have built a strong community and welcomed artists from across the globe. Today, the series has established itself as one of the key events at Club der Visionaere—a place to connect through great music and great people.

In recent years, Foehn & Jerome have shaped a sound that is both dynamic and immersive. Their music moves between warm, groove-driven rhythms and more stripped-back, experimental elements, always unfolding with a sense of flow that keeps the dance floor engaged. Their latest EP, Macho Madness featuring Sonya Zlo, pushes this evolution even further—with raw, genre-bending tracks born from a spontaneous studio jam. Much like their long-standing sets at Club der Visionaere, these productions reflect the atmosphere of their gatherings: detailed, unhurried and rooted in the connection between music and people.

Danube Podcast 021 | Foehn & Jerome

Championing a sound both rugged and trance-inducing, Porto-based Brazilian producer Marcal clocks in this week with two hours blending future-proof warehouse rave material and claustrophobic 4x4 maneuvers. Hot on the heels of his latest ’Nature of the Future’ EP on Donato Dozzy and Neel’s imprint Spazio Disponibile, Marcal takes us on a mind-bending ride down raucous sine-scapes and brooding, verbed-out atmospheres, constantly pushing the envelope of techno as can be experienced these days. Resuming its course as a means for transcending our (currently much gloomy) zeitgeist, techno here gets back on its revolution-friendly tracks, finding its second breath as a metamorphic tool for blazing new paths and routes towards a better, more intelligently designed world. There goes a mix that summons the very finest of Marcal’s boundary-pushing vision and killer knack for crafting memorable and emancipatory floor narratives. Brace yourselves.

Expansive dub vibrations from the On-U Sound maestro.

Adrian Sherwood has spent nearly five decades reshaping how dub is heard and felt. From absorbing reggae and funk as a teenager at the Newlands Club in High Wycombe to cofounding On-U Sound in 1979, he’s been a restless force in British sound system culture. His debut production, Dub From Creation, signalled his instinct to twist the Jamaican form into bold, experimental directions.

That spirit defined On-U Sound, where reggae collided with post-punk, industrial and synth pop to forge a catalogue still unlike anything else. Sherwood became a crucial bridge, producing for legends like Prince Far I, Bim Sherman and Lee “Scratch” Perry, while also working with Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and Sinéad O’Connor.

His  RA Mix (yes, you read that right) arrives at a moment of renewal—RA.1001 is the first in a new era for the series. (After 1,000 editions of the RA Podcast, we're updating the name to better reflect what it's become.) 

Recorded at his Ramsgate studio, the 76-minute mix folds in cuts from <i>The Collapse Of Everything<i> alongside material from across the On-U Sound universe, plus collaborations with Panda Bear, Sonic Boom, Coldcut and Spoon. It's Sherwood doing what he's always done: stretching dub into endless new shapes.
