Alcantara is the name of a place in Sicily. When I think of Sicily some of the first thoughts coming up to my mind are of those great people who were murdered because rebelling against the Mafia. Peppino Impastato is one of these fighters. His voice is taken from the satirical counter-information speeches he was giving on RadioAUT. He's saying:

"A peaceful village / a lot of friends there / everyone was a friend / friends here, friends there / in such a peaceful village / where there were a lot of friends / a village / Mafiopoli"

Thinking that Giant Sand could never get any more giant, Howe Gelb has done just that by regrouping, expanding and magnifying his vision with the newest version of Giant Sand, calling it (appropriately enough) GIANT GIANT SAND. As a sort of homage, he's named the album "Tucson" after the town he's called home for forty years. This self-described country rock opera, by one of music's leading risk-takers, is set to be released on June 11th, 2012 on Fire Records. Here's a first peak with the fantastic "Forever and A Day".

In a unique world premiere Efterklang and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Matthew Coorey performed the songs from Piramida - Efterklang´s 4th album - live in Sydney Opera House for the VIVID Live Festival 2012.

Piramida will be released in it´s studio album version on September 24th on 4AD
and Efterklang will go on tour with The Piramida Concert and perform with orchestras in Europe and NYC fall winter 2012.
