I Need

Newcomer Todd Helder made waves with his debut for STMPD RCRDS, I Need, back in January. The fierce electro / dubstep / trap hybrid exuding boundless confidence, powerful production prowess and an inventiveness beyond his years. Now he returns to the label with another feisty cut in the form of Ride It.
 
Taking its cues from chiptune — the genre that celebrated the 8-bit sounds of ‘80s computer game music — Ride It juxtaposes these retro sounds with cutting-edge production to mesmerising effect. It’s no surprise that he lists video games as one of his key influences, just like label boss Martin Garrix. 
 
The vintage tones play out a powerful rapid-fire melody over razor-sharp bass and the punchiest of kicks and snares, with these melodic sections contrasting against widescreen breaks and builds that are laced with heady vocoder lines and brooding textures. Fierce doesn’t come close to describing it.
 
Breaking through with his unofficial remix of Marshmello’s Alone, Helder soon found the support from STMPD RCRDS. This summer will see this fresh new artist kick off his touring career, spreading his charismatic sound around the world for the first time.

Ride It

With huge, forward-thinking cuts I Need and Ride It, Todd Helder has quickly established himself as one of the most innovative names on Martin Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS. He now makes it 3 for 3 with this superb new track, Smile – out now.

Unusual sounds and production techniques are used to create a spooky, futuristic vibe, mashing up 8-bit chiptune with cutting-edge bass and hip-hop motifs. It’s as bombastic as they come, with his computer game influences once again worn proudly on his sleeve on this track.

It’s been an amazing summer season for Helder, with the young producer making not one but two career defining debuts in July, the first alongside Garrix at Ushuaïa Ibiza and the second at super festival Tomorrowland. Both sets were received with great acclaim and with his just released remix of Martin Garrix + Khalid’s Ocean already doing major damage, as well as debut single Pixel Love on Trap Nation, his name is fast making waves throughout the scene.

Hyper-talented newcomer Todd Helder, is the new Dutch sensation delivering a fresh perspective on the electronic music scene. Debuting his creations on Martin Garrix’s STMPD RCRDS, the 20 year old is dissolving genres one track at a time, dubbing him the frontman for the next generation of electronic talent.

The catalyst for his imminent success was a remix contest for Mashmello’s ‘Alone,’ which soon led to his re-work amassing plays in Marshmello’s live sets all over the world. Extracting futuristic elements from the computer games of his youth, he promotes an alluring fusion of EDM, Trap and instrumental hip hop that lay bass for his 8-bit chiptune influences. Carrying this trademark sound over to his live sets, Todd has seen great acclaim following his shows at the iconic Ushuaïa Ibiza.

In record time, the teen prodigy is fast becoming Holland’s next greatest success story, dropping his first single and making his Tomorrowland debut within a near impossible six month window. Todd is decisively carving out his own creative lane, with a rare ability to effortlessly blend genres setting him in perfect stead to cultivate a lasting impression with a global audience. With solo shows on the horizon, this young producer’s career is steam rolling into quick maturity, making him the one to watch.

Todd Helder kicks off his 2019 by going ‘Deeper’

We should probably stop calling Todd Helder’s sound ‘futuristic’ by this stage. No matter how many visions of sci-fi utopias and dystopias his cinematic sound conjures up, the fact is that it’s very much the sound of now. His cutting edge production continues to amaze on his latest bombastic track, Deeper.

Blending his distinctive 8-bit synth template beautifully to a bone-crushing, dubstep flavoured beat, Deeper is another winner from the hands of this young producer. A filtered intro sets a hazy tone before the cool vocoder vocals glitch and bend up and down in trippy fashion. 

In slams the thick waves of sub bass, buzzing electro leads and chiptune sounds on the drop, fusing together to create something that is deeply electronic yet maintains a sense of soul and emotion. A mellow breakdown lays on distant chords and light breakbeat rhythms, lifting the track higher and increasing the tension. One final pummeling from the gnarly beat ensures that complete devastation is carried out. 

Preferring to concentrate on his prolific production output rather than a heavy social media presence, Helder likes to keep his online profile to a minimum. Nonetheless, he recently posted on Instagram: “2018 has been crazy!! I could never have done this without you guys! thanks for all your support. Furthermore, I’ve got a lot of big things coming so keep posted!” 

He’s not wrong — 2019 is going to be a massive year for him with the continued support of the STMPD RCRDS family.
