DJ Shadow, widely acknowledged as a crucial figure in the development of experimental, instrumental hip-hop, has returned with ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ via Mass Appeal Records [and Believe Digital in France], his first full length release since 2011. The 12-track album finds DJ Shadow exploring new realms in addition to the deep samples and kinetic soundscapes that helped to launch his career 20 years ago. On ‘The Mountain Will Fall’ he’s shifted further toward original composition, a vast experimentation of beats and textures, synthesizers and live instruments including horns and woodwinds. The album features Run The Jewels, Nils Frahm, Matthew Halsall, Ernie Fresh and more.

Recorded in Istanbul in July 2015 with a number of local visionary musicians, Débruit presents a synthetic and  rhythmic journey inside  the  city's  history  and future.  'Débruit  &  Istanbul',  his fourth  album,  is  set for release through his own multidisciplinary label ICI on 27th May 2016. 

During his 15 days in Istanbul, Débruit worked on an imaginative interpretation of the city carried by the megalopolis through its meanders. He collaborated with established artists, including leading fusion-jazz percussionist  Okay  Temiz,  70s  Turkish-funk  star  Mustapha  Özkent,  gypsy  master  clarinettist  Cüneyt Sepetçi, and rising and grass roots local musicians such as art-rock singer Gaye Su Akyol, Melike Şahin and Murat Ertel of BaBa ZuLa. 
The inspiration of sounds, rhythms, lights and tempo of the city at different moments  in  time  have  resulted  in  a  melting  pot  of  traditional, visionary,  electric,  psychedelic,  futuristic, melodic and experimental music. Now set for release to the public, 'Débruit & Istanbul' is a new vision of the exciting and captivating city.   

"I  wanted  this  album  to  be  driven  by  the  feelings  I  got from  Istanbul  and  my  encounters.  The  city’s enthusiasm and majestic urban and topographic flows inspired light but deep moods: there is a darkness in there but a proud one. A roughness in control. Istanbul has such an inspiring mix of tradition and forward thinking vision. It has a pulse of its very own. Its impossible to put into words the excitement, surprises and magic of making this album. Of the experiences of trying to find these people, walking up unknown streets or taking the boat to the Asian side. Discovering the city at the same time as being on the album journey, going to neighbourhoods I wouldn't have been to if it wasn't for recording. For the past seven years Kornél Kovács has been busy rocking dancefloors and boomboxes worldwide as one third of Stockholm’s Studio Barnhus alongside Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist. The label and DJ trio is spearheading a new era of fearless Swedish off-centre dance music, straddling the line between the cute and the menacing.

Anticipation for Kovács' debut album has been rocketing following stand out releases like 2014's wistful Szikra, last year’s mad party anthem Pantalón on Glasgow's Numbers imprint and the late night groove of Space Jam on Smallville Records.

On The Bells, Kovács pops open his trunk full of sounds nicked from the lost and found bins of nightclubs all over the world. From the distorted organ chords of BB to the stripped down trancehall beats of Josey’s Tune and Szív Utca and the title track's cinematic romanticism, it's all of the bells and all of the whistles - further positioning Kovács as one of the most characteristic producers of modern house music.

The record was completed in an intense two-week session with Kovács' great friend and studio engineer Matt Karmil in the winter of 2016. Another close friend, artist Malin Gabriella Nordin, has created the album artwork together with her brother Jonas.

Prompted directly by Kovács to give his report on the record, Studio Barnhus label boss Axel Boman had the following to say:

Kornél's bells will echo far beyond the nervous and trend sensitive ”dance" genre that our label sometimes is associated with, and into pop history. It’s one of our best, most innovative and creative releases to date, and the fact that one of my best friends has managed to do this on the label we share together makes me so proud that I want to cry. ”The Bells” is the reason I dreamed of starting a label in the first place.
