Kate Stein makes her debut on Playground Records with the excellent ‘Mystic Saddle Ranch’ EP. The Australian raised, New York based producer Kate Stein brings a package full of hypnotic rhythms and beautiful landscapes for her debut on Playground Records. Composed of two original mixes and two high caliber remixes from Autarkic and Balam, the package is set to release May 13th. Our pick of the bunch comes in the form of Kate's original ‘Hi-Lo Motel’ - a track that perfectly showcases her ability to create tension and vibrant storylines.

Sam Astbury is the founder of UK based record label X-Kalay, which he started around 5 years ago in south London. The label aims to provide a platform for emerging talents across the broad spectrum of underground dance music without being constrained by style or geographic location. As a DJ, Sam leans towards the faster end of house music taking influence from the techy UK styles of the late 90's and early 2000's. This latest mix adds a proggy edge and consists of solely new music, plus a few upcoming tracks from the label.

The fighting had broken out several days ago and there had been little respite since. Pleas had come from both sides but nothing seemed to settle the violence, peace wasn't on the horizon. The media had done their worst, pitting each side against the other, scapegoating them for the bad decisions made by those who wield the power. The terrain ahead was unchartered so they braced themselves for the worst.

Benedikt Frey and Menqui's Serious Trouble imprint return with another batch of gritty electronic excursions, this time courtesy of producer NVST. Part of the Statement Crew, Female:Pressure and one half of the team behind the Big Science label, she's got plenty of firm roots within electronic music, which she's now extending to her own productions and the release of her debut solo EP, 'Stop Violence Motivate Violence'. Full of driving rhythms, warbling metallic synths, crunchy breaks and stuttering vocal samples, the release is an accomplished introduction to NVST's sound palate, bolstered by a remix from Benedikt on the flip.

Black Light Smoke’s US-based imprint Death Decay Magic invites The Hacker, Cardopusher, Man 2.0 and Adrian Marth to remix tracks from the first three releases on the imprint.

After seven years of brand building as a podcast mix series, Death Decay Magic was launched as a record label in March 2020 by Jordan Lieb aka Black Light Smoke. With a DIY ethos, Death Decay Magic explores the darker, eclectic realms of electronic music, bridging techno with EBM, minimal synth and post-punk.

Death Decay Magic Remixes Vol. 1 is a compilation remix EP, drawing on the first three Death Decay Magic releases; Black Light Smoke ‘Line and Shadows’, Daniel Holt ‘Traveler’, and Man 2.0 & Black Light Smoke ‘Holy Hammer’. Death Decay Magic invites remixes from The Hacker, Cardopusher, Adrian Marth, Man 2.0, and Black Light Smoke on a release that illustrates the labels blueprint perfectly: raw, edgy synth music with ghostly vocals; one foot in techno, the other stepping out into the unknown.

Zone Music boss The Hacker gets things underway with a crunchy remix of Black Light Smoke ‘Lines’ featuring crystalline leads, zapping synths and whirring stabs. Up next, Man 2.0 and Black Light Smoke’s ‘Bodywork’ gets a remix from Classicworks founder Cardopusher as he takes the remix into mystifying territories with revolving modulations bouncing elegantly off the chugging rhythm. Night Noise artist Man 2.0 follows by laying down an industrial-tinged electro remix of ‘Traveler’ with otherworldly atmospheres, gauzy textures and dynamic elements.
Italo Moderni label boss Adrian Marth follows with an interpretation of ‘Bank For God’ as the spiralling EBM sonics flow vigorously and the drilling rhythms get to work underneath. DDM honcho Black Light Smoke then finishes things off with a version of his track, ‘Your Own Hands,’ which fuses rubbery bass grooves, playful melodies and vibrant 909s.

Mexico’s leading underground Duro Label is back with another incandescent EP, this time from Torreón based producer Macualay, who serves up fine three original deviant house cuts with a remix from Fabio Me Llaman Soltero.
During last year's confinement, using the lowest lo-budget equipment and a microphone of dubious provenance, Macaulay together with his bastard clone DJ Papi created a new EP full of corrugated house, heavy kicks, fleshy basses and highly impure synths.
Opening the pleasure feast is ‘A Gozar’, a six-minute roller with ghostly buried synths, narcotic voices over heavy drums and chubby bass. “Latinon”, the second original track and the first of the two collaborations with DJ Papi, is a HOT, clear example of Mexico's tech-mex sound at it's finest: an anthem for the sexy young souls of the forbidden latin warehouse party scene.
Up next comes “Meneitous”, a lewd lesson in total tension that takes the dancefloor to darker places. On the remix duties, Guatemala’s papi Fabio Me Llaman Soltero delivers a chunky tribal beat running through flailing percussion, delayed vocal sounds, and uncontrolled synths.

Another X-Kalay OG returns to the label this summer and we couldn’t be happier. It’s not a huge overstatement to say that Lucas’ first record on X-Kalay, “Ataraxia”, was somewhat of a milestone in the development of both artist and label, and it has been a huge pleasure to see him go from strength to strength since its release just over two years ago. These days it’s fair to say that Lucas is one of the most exciting young artists in the game - with a finely crafted knack for electro, and the 303 in particular, pretty much second to none. We’re super proud to welcome him back with his next effort - “Lifeforms".

On the flip, we premiere, “Alien With a Subwoofer (Skyline Mix)" - a pacey bit of club material built around deep throbs, a seriously wiggly 303, and carefully constructed pads building subtle tension. The sound of aliens redlining straight through your consciousness.

BinarySound is back and welcomes three new faces to the imprint.

On the A-side, Frankfurter duo Cedric Dekowski and Felix Reifenberg from the infamous HardWorkSoftDrinks crew join the French label. They deliver a masterclass in sound crafting with the future classic Neptuning, that will tear any dancefloor, anytime. Pichler offers a warm sound designed for the afterhours, promising a trip back to everyone’s favorite Offenbach wood floor.

On the B-side, DJ Void aka Elias signs his first appearance on a vinyl imprint with 2 heavy bass and energetic dancefloor bangers, infused with a melody you can already hear blaring through the club’s speakers.

This project was curated in support of Berlin’s Club Der Visionaere and sister club MS Hoppetosse in the summer of 2020, due to the fire of 2019 and the impact the pandemic passed on to the clubs, two pinnacles of the scene, that have given so much to our community.

B1. Escape Two - The Countryside Trip

Undersound Recordings is proud to announce the first cassette release on the label. The tape contains a 27 minutes live jam session by WAG, recorded at Ballacid Studio in 2016. 

During the past year, Undersound Recordings had the pleasure to work closely with Balla and J. Mono and Andras. Since day one the connection was great, but most important we understood pretty quickly that we share the same vision about music. That’s why we decided to make a release from music lovers for music lovers. Different format, same quality.

This rare recording was made to check and memorize the patterns for live situations, jamming on analog machines, such as Elektron Monomachine, Mutable Instruments Shruthi 1, Cyclone Analogic TT-303 and Roland TR-909. The tape allows to listen to the recording uninterrupted, from beginning to end, with which the energy of WAG comes into full effect.
