Barbara and Basic Moves have been sending emails back and forth the last 7 years since she works at Scape Mastering alongside engineer Stefan Betke. She is a super skilled dj with a backpack full of experience and knowledge of club music and beyond. It felt logical to us to send another kind of email that wasn't an order form or payment confirmation. hahaha.

This mix puts both our feet back on the ground. Barbara fluently mixes minimal house and dub techno with a unique groove that feels so timeless and oh so clubbbbbyyy. Thanks a lot for teaching and showing us your way.

What’s in Barbara’s backpack? She started her career in Munich working for Disko-B in the mid nineties and soon became a resident at the green flokati room of the cult venue Ultraschall. In 1998 she left for Berlin to work as a freelance press and radio promoter. Around 1999 she co-found the label ˜scape, together with Stefan Betke aka Pole, creating an open platform for the productions of Kit Clayton, Jan Jelinek, Deadbeat, Pole amongst many others.

Autumn 2009 Barbara Preisinger founded the 12inch vinyl label SLICES OF LIFE which is focused on organic sounding and diverse club music, with releases by Betke, Mike Huckaby, Baaz, John Tejada and The Mole. The label´s founding year also marked the beginning of the event series DEEP IN THE BOX with regular parties at Berlin´s Club der Visionäre, Wilde Renate, Ipse among other places. In September 2015 Barbara Preisinger moved DEEP IN THE BOX to the Globus floor at Berlin´s legendary TRESOR club, where she has been hosting her parties every 2 months since then.

Ben Koops is an avid record digger who I met in an afterparty at a common friend's place.

Ben's range of music was extremely impressive, at the time he wasn't yet playing out so much so I invited him to open Toi Toi at Lion & Lamb for A Guy Called Gerald's live and then to Desyn a few months later. 

Ben has been on a steady route since, playing out in many of London's best underground parties, not to mention the kind and sweet soul he is.

For our series Ben presents a very specific / stripped down set which is totally fitting to our platform. Unlike most who tend to go for presenting a wide range of genres, Ben decided to really put a lens in to specifics. What you get is an elegant / linear set, meticulously constructed, beauty.

….and here we present: Lion & Lamb’s Andre King. 

Andre King was a DJ and a producer way before he created the Lion & Lamb. Meeting Rob Mello when he was 20 years old, the pair went on to create the legendary feeling’ events which became the original after-parties for Fabric when it first opened over 20 years ago. He’s gone on to release on labels like westbound and transfusion and played in bands for over a decade, before returning to dance music with the creation of the Lion & Lamb. 

As most of you know this mix series is a very personal affair to me and how connections to the artists came about on a personal, musical and artistically level. In this case it couldn’t get more personal: my deep relationship with Lion & Lamb or as some may call it our “dear local”. 

Taking a project off the ground such as this is no easy task. I had the pleasure of being invited there during the refurbishment phase prior to opening and it seems I never left. I do not exaggerate when I call it my second (if not first) home. From the endless hours spent in there, many of them are spent in Andre’s studio exchanging, making or playing music. 

During these 5+ years I have watched and experienced the growth of Lion & Lamb and with it, the development of Andre as a DJ, producer and musician, therefore I wanted to portray that here by having him do a mix for us. This mix is a consequence of our joint exploration in music and his own over the years. 	Andre’s development as a producer has also been remarkably impressive, going beyond the realms of dance music only. 

I would like to thank him for his hard work to generate all of us the beauty that Lion and Lamb is as well as the long exploration to present this musical journey.

Labelled by @resident-advisor as "one of the classiest and grooviest house DJs out there," @danaruh is a musician who lives and breathes music like few others. Thoroughly obsessed by the complexities of sound, she's as renowned for his wizardry behind the decks as she is her label, @brouqade -as well as her role at fledgling Berlin music space, 60waves store. A native of Gera, Ruh has been firmly settled in Berlin for over a decade now, with Germany's capital continuing to play a profound effect on her unique way of working. An impressively multifaceted musician, Ruh's early sound was often characterised by its subtle, minimal tropes, although these days she's equally as likely to champion classy, up-tempo house as she is a tougher, more peak-time techno vibe. It's a way of working that means she's equally comfortable throwing it down in Romania as she Ibiza or at her summer residency at Berlin's Club der visionaere. A master of the subtle groove, Ruh's work continues to draw praise from electronic music's most respected names, with her highly-regarded debut LP, Naturally, released via @jus-ed @undergroundquality. Added to this, further celebrated releases have arrived recently via equally discerning outposts such as @barbara-preisinger, Cave Records and @autoreply. Closer to home, Ruh continues to rep her Brougade imprint with distinction. Conceived in 2007, the label is now firmly established one that's equally likely to push forward-thinking up-and-coming artists and established names alike. As one of the founder of @kma60 he established 60waves, an independent record store in berlin, releasing her latest album 2020 on Cave Recordings Dana is never sitting still. after her Release on @smallville-records in 2023 and back on Brougade and with a live set to perform She will not stop to create.

The next venue we’re profiling is the intimate Hoxton spot The Lion & Lamb. A soundproofed pub with a maximum capacity of around 100, the tiny space probably doesn’t qualify as a “club”. But its key hallmarks – the homely dancefloor, the warm Martin Audio sound, and a regular rotation of excellent artists – easily place the Hoxton venue up there with London’s best late-night spots. It’s one of our favourite places to hang out after a big night at the club, but beyond being a killer after hours haunt, it’s become a vital hub for the capital’s flourishing underground scene.
The Lion & Lamb founder and resident Andre King packed dub, disco, acid, house and electro into a slow-burning two-hour mix for us to reflect the venue’s sound.
