The Toi.Toi.Mix Series, as the name suggests, is a platform created with the intent of showcasing sets from the most various types of artists. It does not follow any rules as in respect to which frequency it comes out, dj set or live set or even, sets which we recorded at the Toi.Toi.Events. The rule here is free flow, simply the music and artists I would like to proudly stand for. I come across a lot of talents during my travels and many of those go unnoticed to a wider audience, this is how very naturally, the decision to create this platform came about. Hope you all enjoy the journey.

Dea is one half of the duo ERIS, she has joined our [dys]functional family  as a solo artist just over a year ago and like everyone that joins I ask for a piece of music where I can present them to the world, generally a Dj set so back then I asked her for a mix.

What I love about most of the artists with us, is that they are patient and understated, a feature that in a world of self entitled egos it comes as quite an asset.  I do adore those that take their time, specially to record a set, meaning it is more important to be and feel right about it than it is to rush through it. In a form of contrast to patience, there is Dea’s personality, which is pure  “fire” , you see, artists can have great mixing techniques and great record collections  but what we should be looking for is personality which in her case, she has in abundance.

In a beautiful world of polarising contradictions where patience meets fire Dea has recorded this special set for this special occasion, the Toi Toi takeover at fabric celebrating mine and her birthday, as good as a Sagittarius, as I am as she is, not surprisingly a fire sign.

Toi Toi Mix Series 41 by Dea

Ma.to is no stranger in the underground scene. Founder and artist of Outer Place Records – there is a good chance that you’ve already danced to his music productions and you weren’t aware of it. He recently relocated to London from his previous base which was Berlin. 

We welcomed him to our home city with a blast - here is the recording from his set at Fold when we took over the warehouse for an all day long journey in East London.

Ma.to combines elements from the 90s House and Techno in a modern minimalistic sound, which allows you to see the trends of the 90s in the language of contemporary electronic music. No wonder that his perception and radical conception about being a musician was influenced by the classical and intense formation he received since he was six years old.

Moving and living from Rome to Berlin in 2012 formed the character and musical influence of Ma.to's production and selection. Shaping the sound of his events in Hoppetosse and Club Der Visionäre, Outer Place and also leading to the Record Label project involving music from him and artists or friends around the globe.

This is a live recording from Jigit (Resolute) in NYC, the infamous long party at h0l0. It was the first time this live was performed and it keeps getting better and better, as they do, through each performance, a never ending quest for perfection even though that perfection are the imperfections, the spontaneous improvisations along the way.

Highly regarded as a versatile and talented artist , not only in his home country Chile but the world out. A career spanning 20+ years, his ties to some of the most integral and quality musicians and industry wide individuals easily exposes which side he is on. 

Felipe comes from a pool of artists from a generation that for sure “interacts” with the current one through ways of working, relationships and beyond, but there is one thing they have as s core, a base to it all: their values. Some of these are integrity, care, sharing, educating, learning, being humble, always and forever prioritising music above all things and against all odds. 

With an infinite discography and extensive musical background that spans decades, the head behind labels such as Melcure, HC and Cure music defines his career as a protracted palette of colours. From classical to rock and from indie to new wave, Felipe has dedicated most of his life to developing his perspective on all musical trends, and the last 20 years, focused on exploring electronic sounds and all its sub-genres.

As an inveterate music lover and collector, it is clear to define him as a broad dj with a diverse vision, one that defies any narrowed musical genre specification, it is very wide, that combined with a very personal musical identity, absorbing from each style while generating what we call “the stamp”, the bit that defines one as “an artist”, their unique points. 

Known by his peers as a "full on music maker", there is no doubt about the countless tracks that are part of his sessions nowadays, so much so that in 2024 he launched a brand new live at H0l0 in NYC for a Jigit event. This live recording can be found HERE, it was released on the toi toi mix series, a collective he is very much attached to musically and ideologically. Some of his recent releases have been so sought after that copies were running out of the shelves at shops in no time. 

Many labels and Alter egos define this audio engineer as a complete and open minded producer.

Among his collaborations we can find him as: FAER, AHORA, Acapulco heat, Calcio Club, Bichos raros, Dorian Paic among many others, in addition to his multiple solo projects.

This particular mix is very close to my heart for a number of reasons. The primary one is of course, Gabriel. The occasion, being the night of my birthday and the bringing together of two generations at the forefront of my world. Choosing Gabriel to open for Craig Richards.

As you know I have a deep rooted belief in “we need to know where we are coming from to know where we are going”. New and old generations intertwining.

Gabriel is a very unique young talent. He manages to have attritibutes that I only see in matured artists after all these years. Expansive musical knowledge, having the suitability and adaptability to the context at play; be it jazz, electronic or funk. One can feel that in the progression. Introduction, middle, end…

Story telling.

In addition to the artistic competence you have an incredible personality, one that has ambition but also remains humble, never confusing it with self-entitlement, rather …. mutual respect, appreciation and gratitude. Evident to that, he has his own party called Local Moves, born at The lion and Lamb, supporting local artists, enhancing exchange and contributing to the scene he is a part of.

The venue he holds that party residency in now Little Portland Street, also where this set was recorded. LPS is an audiophile space in Central London with a Martion Installation. This venue is very dear to my heart because I programme the Thursday nights there since it opened for nearly 3 years now.

Toi Toi Mix Series 44 by Gabriel Rai

Lenny Mailleau, this incredible producer, musician and dj which you may have come across as one half of Zendid. 
Lenny always manages to astonish me with his several projects, also, the scope of them. As a fully trained musician combined with his production and Djing skills,  his output is extremely varied. From doing a live performance on a blend of jazz with electronic or djing at his own parties at CDV or Hoppetosse to way beyond, hence he is one of CDV’s owners’ favourites on the daring musicianship side of things. 

It was in one of his parties in 2024 I came across him playing b2b with Jonas Blanquiere at Hoppetosse. Now, Jonas I had never known of or came across and don’t I love coming across new artists. In the schematics of the b2b I personally was drawn to his more techno driven style as opposed to Lenny which at that moment swerved to a somewhat different vibe, the incredible thing about this though, is that it worked beautifully. 

Jonas is one of this low profile artists but one that is running a lot on the background. An avid selector from the South of France now based in Berlin he is the owner of High End Recordings. A label worth having a listen to even you don’t know of. Quite some incredible musical output there.

Since the news of Jay's death this August, I was not able to bring myself to write. On one hand, I would have so much to write about such a genius, but he meant so much to me personally too, so much that I could hardly start. In addition to all that has already been said about Jay, I would like to add my message, which is very personal to me.

I was the last manager Jay had; we did a lot together, from charities in South America to helping the victims of the tsunami in Japan alongside Seth Troxler. We released an album under the concept of Music 2.0, the interview he did that brought the Resident Advisor server down due to being such a polemic subject.

This album was titled Love=evolution. I did all the copywriting, tour bookings, and management with him. It was the first time I had ever managed an artist, let alone such a global tour. Not only did Jay initiate my career in music in this field of management, but during the time I managed him I had just graduated with a major in Psychology (Sociology & Third World Politics), and he also helped initiate me in mental health linked to artist work, which I still pursue today. During the years that Jay grew up, mental health was still a taboo, so I fear he did not receive enough support in that area. I would like to use this space to raise awareness of the importance of seeking and offering help to one another.

Jay had his demons, and in the past years it was quite hard for him, battling with the two sides of this genius personality: one the devil, and the other a true angel. An incredible genius of mind and artistry, one I want the memory of to live on, so I decided to release this recording.

This recording from fabric, 20 years ago, exactly in August, is one of my favourites, as valid then as it is valid now, this thing about timeless music.  When I started managing him in 2011, I got this recording to remind him of his own power; at that point he had already been through so much. Again, the battle for Jay was constant, so I used this as a reminder of the amazing beast he is. He nicknamed me Ice Dawg, following that.

My dear hizzle, rest in peace; your memory lives on.

I will do everything in my power to collect his unreleased music together with Lara, the beautiful daughter he left behind who lives in Peru with her mother, Estefania Vilallobos.

Love=Evolution, my darling, and we love(d) you.
