Squire, aka Jaime Alguersuari, explores new ground with vocal-strong, lyrical, synth pop infused tracks with drum and bass, techno and new-age influences. In his debut album Stop, named for when the world did, his signature vocal hooks with soulful synths emerging as melodic, deep or organic house, evolve naturally into full-on songs. The Barcelona DJ/producer has always been a pathfinder, as former youngest ever Formula One racer, and a DJ since he was 15.

Driving percussion and emotionally-charged synths marry with sweet, high voices; Overdue feat. Brynja is a spellbinding combo of the Icelandic singer’s quiet joy and a lively, clapping beat with syncopated pulse. In Fall Into The Dream Feat. Rachel Bachman, a much more synthy electronic feel is cut through by Bachman’s snow-pure, almost sinister, vocals, like gothic plainsong in some pagan church. Holiday Feat. Parkes is faster, shifting gear to dark, pulsating synth chords. ‘I met Carlos at a friend’s, I literally had goosebumps when I heard him sing! I just had to record with him, and we finished Holiday together.’

Entirely produced at Squire’s home in Barcelona, Stop is released on Mobilee, a label who he’s firm favourites with and has released some of his strongest work; Label head Ralf Kollmann encouraged him to experiment with grooves and beats. Other noteworthy labels like All Day I Dream, Selador and Einmusika have also supported Squire’s skilful, soulful sound.

Following Matthias Meyer's hugely acclaimed ‘Sweet Ease’ / ‘Hybrid Society’ collaboration with Budakid on Watergate Records which reached No.1 on Beatport Indie Dance and was accompanied by Matthias Meyer touring worldwide, ’The Choir’ EP showcases the Berlin-based artist’s trademark diverse and eclectic sound, whilst brimming full of emotion and energy.

The deep and stirring title track ’The Choir’ is a highly original and mesmeric opener whose centrepiece is a euphoric, yet poignant church choir refrain which shimmers and pulsates throughout, beautifully deployed alongside the tougher edged beats which drive the hypnotic cut. This truly remarkable track is certain to become a highlight of DJ sets over the coming months, whether played at a beach party in Mexico, or in a stadium arena concert.

’Touch Of Magic’ complements ‘The Choir’ perfectly, as ‘80s inspired synths and glitchy beats move up a tempo, whilst the choral elements are softened alongside addictive stabbing percussion and sparkling, cascading chords.

Meyer’s debut label release, ‘Strangely Enough’, was released in Spring 2021 and included support from RÜFÜS DU SOL, Solomun, Sasha, Adriatique, Rampa, and James Grant, amongst others.

After their previous release with a new version of the famous track from the 80's ¨Electric Avenue¨ recorded by Tone Of Arc, Bar 25 Music is proud to present the remix EP. A cover by the author of a famous “Goodbye Horses” got a new life, thanks to two brilliant remixes. First one is a rework by our frequent contributor, the versatile musician and style-icon — Niconé.

Another one was crafted beautifully by SIS — producer who was released on Ricardo Villalobos’ label and named Producer of the Year Germany's Groove Magazine in 2008. SIS is considered the pioneer of the Burning Man sounds, continues his quest to entertain global dancefloors with his unique live shows and hedonistic DJ sets. He is playing actively in Playa Del Carmen and Tulum including for Circoloco and he continues growing his musical discography.

While Vir and I only met in person once (which was a hello/handshake at my OddBird theatre gig in New Delhi back in 2017) we've had a close musical connection as he'd released 2 killer forward-thinking EPs on Manjumasi. We've been chatting over the years sharing music and musings on life in general. At the start of the pandemic, I had a lot of musical drafts, but I wanted to push them to the next level in terms of edginess and sophistication, so I sent a few tunes his way to see if he was inspired. He bounced back with some outstanding ideas, and we tirelessly worked on molding these lumps of clay into a lump of wax.

Artistically and personally, it's been an absolute pleasure working with Vir and building our relationship - it took us two years to fully understand each other's approach + figuring out when to compromise and when to veto, so I see this EP as the first chapter in a story that's yet to be written.

I'm proud of our final product and floored by the absolute stormer remix from @christopherledger, another artist whose music is another dimension beyond the rest of the pack.

For the name-giving track of this release "Ah Oh Uh" the two boys teamed up with Diode Eins. The result of this cooperation takes the audience on an atmospheric journey with a broken beat groove and 80s soundscapes, arps and vocal stabs. Nicone's pumping remix impresses with a straight four-to-the-floor kick and bassline groove combined with spherical chords and drone pads.

PREMIERE: Murmusica - Libertad Feat. TAI, Tolga Bilgin [Sol Selectas]

Crosstown Rebels’ sub-label Rebellion returns with a fourth instalment of its ongoing SOULS series, with fresh tracks from a selection of exciting, up-and-coming talent.
Curated by label head Damian Lazarus, Rebellion’s excellent SOULS series has always transcended sounds and scenes to dig deep into the most forward-thinking new electronic niches. It has a deeply embedded spiritual theme, like most projects with which Lazarus is associated, and this volume again connects the dots between a number of innovative producers from across the globe.
Belgrade and Mykonos-based duo MĪMĪ x FY open up with ‘Robotic Mode’, linking with Estray for a silky synth- laced house cut that goes deep into a cosmic future. The deft chords, spoken words and sci-fi signifiers enrich the groove perfectly. Brazil's Vini Pistori is next with ‘Hypnotized’, a scintillating fusion of pixelated melodies and bright, starry-eyed chords over a drawn-out and languid groove that is perfect for the late-night hours.
Frequent collaborators MILI and Hoomance then step up with ‘Casa Mama’, a playful cut with a carnival feel thanks to the characterful horns which bounce about over the crisp drums. It's a track full of soul and sunshine that captures the joy of dancing outdoors. OMRI closes things with the rubbery bass and skewed synth futurism of his off-grid percussive masterclass, 'Funk Rhythm.’
Another taste-making statement from the label and Lazarus, Rebellion presents SOULS Vol.4 is loaded with the sounds of tomorrow across another excellently curated package.

Animal Trainer - RAYAAN

Adrian Flavor and Samy Jackson are Animal Trainer (@animaltrainer), a dynamic duo whose unique brand of ‘slow rave’ has captured the imaginations of countless electronic music lovers. The Rayaan release features two perfect encapsulations of their craft. 'Rayaan' is a vibey, atmoshoperic tech house burner, slowly building over its duration, layering synths, pads and killer melodic hooks over an irresistible groove.
