Following her maiden contribution to our 300th milestone VA issued a couple of months ago, Berlin-based SKALA clocks in on Stil vor Talent with her debut solo effort, "Liquid Gold". A three-track alchemy of sultry atmospherics, shamanic brainwaves and further spaced-out, big-room-focused momentums, this EP resounds as a statement of style from a burgeoning artist in the process of establishing her non-pareil voice in our scene.

Breaking the EP in, the mystique-friendly title-track "Liquid Gold" taps in a seam of slo-burning, folk-informed house and laces it with future-ready engineerings. Imagine stepping in a smoke-shrouded den where your body and soul make one with that of the crowd's, glowing silhouettes stretching their odd contours out convulsive tides of stroboscopic lights and steamy emanations from the jam-packed engine room.

The second cut doesn't drift much farther from that sensually dark, night-loving ambience made hers by SKALA. Out of a similar palette of ominous machine spurts and hip-swaying, metronomic swagger, the vibes pour in to incendiary effect. "Ivory" rounds it off on an even wilder, more menacingly ambivalent note, doing the splits between a brittle, melancholy-infused melody and a trampling groove, tailored to march over the club with maximal tonnage.

This time the roads cross with Pongo who collaborates on the title track "Lost In You".

The pair gives life to a song with a melancholy vein that develops its melody on a bass line with a vaguely pop rock structure.

"Lost In You" is also served in the form of a Musumeci remix which speed up the bpm and insert a stomping piano chords break which gives the track a more housy flavour. Fans of Sol Selectas know exactly what to expect from this highly revered compilation which gathers existing members of the record label's family and introduces them to the next generation of talent, as this release is often the gateway to future releases on Sabo's influential imprint.

Crosstown Rebels’ sub-label Rebellion returns with a fourth instalment of its ongoing SOULS series, with fresh tracks from a selection of exciting, up-and-coming talent.
Curated by label head Damian Lazarus, Rebellion’s excellent SOULS series has always transcended sounds and scenes to dig deep into the most forward-thinking new electronic niches. It has a deeply embedded spiritual theme, like most projects with which Lazarus is associated, and this volume again connects the dots between a number of innovative producers from across the globe.
Belgrade and Mykonos-based duo MĪMĪ x FY open up with ‘Robotic Mode’, linking with Estray for a silky synth- laced house cut that goes deep into a cosmic future. The deft chords, spoken words and sci-fi signifiers enrich the groove perfectly. Brazil's Vini Pistori is next with ‘Hypnotized’, a scintillating fusion of pixelated melodies and bright, starry-eyed chords over a drawn-out and languid groove that is perfect for the late-night hours.
Frequent collaborators MILI and Hoomance then step up with ‘Casa Mama’, a playful cut with a carnival feel thanks to the characterful horns which bounce about over the crisp drums. It's a track full of soul and sunshine that captures the joy of dancing outdoors. OMRI closes things with the rubbery bass and skewed synth futurism of his off-grid percussive masterclass, 'Funk Rhythm.’
Another taste-making statement from the label and Lazarus, Rebellion presents SOULS Vol.4 is loaded with the sounds of tomorrow across another excellently curated package.
