Polish enigmatic producer Vertical Spectrum gives us ten tracks of profound, precise, reverberated, alien techno for this LP.

Sfora showcases the studio skills of this veteran creator, from beatless ambient soundscapes to direct dancefloor weapons. 

SANEL001 acts as a dreamy introduction of what comes next. Made of drones and sweeps, totally beatless. The spaceship engines are still warming up and everything is getting ready for the upcoming tryp.

MKB002 follows in this space travel’s soundtrack with percussive parts setting the pace, introducing the drum elements wisely, spiced with textures and spacious synth sounds that constantly evolve across the expertly designed arrangement.

MNFS003 combines precision and distortion on the first bars until continuous texturized elements show off slowly. The result is a profound and mental dancefloor tool.

MARDAN004 provides alien bleeps over a solid groove, extracting the most of the stereo field creating a disturbing sense of hypnosis and hallucination. Psychedelic sci fi techno at its best.

GRNW005 goes to dancefloor territories with a combination of percussive elements and synthetic sweeps wisely served across the complex structure of the track. One more time the mind and body colliding in an exquisite mood.

BALN006 brings the bleeps again to the soundtrack, this time at a faster tempo than the previous ones. The obsessive sequences give a binaural listening experience while the percussive elements provide a solid basement to the whole track. 

KRF007 is made of a few sonic components, a solid kick, an asymmetrically delayed synth drum line and some micro drones providing the necessary mental space.

SAMAEL008 continues the space tryp in similar coordinates, always combining stereo sonic details, repetitive sequences and subtle and detailed drum programming.

With ELWS009 The futuristic sound voyage is near its end and this slice sets the coordinates for the landing somewhere in the unknown universe out there. Resonant synth details, breathy drones and sharp drum machine components put the dancer in a non gravity scenario perfect for abstraction and mind expansion.

PAVKO010 closes this epic journey, looks like the spacecraft has landed now and all the machines go slowly to rest until the next tryp. Calm, relax and the satisfaction of an accomplished mission.

Continuing on from a series of successful EPs on Token including last year’s Ostinato, Antigone returns to the label with Rising, his first experiment with the LP format. Rising is an album that exerts itself to stimulate the mind and the body simultaneously. As such, it’s a record that gives the dramatic illusion of having a physical pulse.

The artist, real name Antonin Jeanson, already has a substantial body of work behind him. Considering his previous releases on Token, Indigo Aera, Concrete Music and Taapion, and his experience as a resident at Concrete in Paris, the level of artistic maturity he possesses while still being under 30 is highly impressive yet unsurprising at the same time.

For Rising, Antigone manages to oscillate between great ambient introspections carried by spacey synths and deconstructed rhythms, and elegant techno epics that are suitable for listening pleasure as much as for the pure abandonment of reality. 

The title track’s delicate arpeggios meld into strings with stirring cadences, delivering above and beyond the standard intro, as it breaks and continues for a second round with added depth. Sands of Time stands out with tiny, breathy samples, pitch bent into something ever different from the last. Lost and Found’s granulated percussion sits adjacent to a cinematic sea of strings, while Out There provides a tasteful fragment of the sci-fi reverence many listeners demand of a techno album. Duality of Mind hints once again at the measured moods of Cantor Dust, his Token debut EP. It Follows alludes to supernatural horror with call-and-response variants on an almost microtonal theme. Infinite Limit’s tension from the offset brings a UK-influenced sound to the record, which continues with the IDM-feeling Dume and the equally glitchy and pulsing Love Field, while the in-between Irreversible is an immersive piece with a piercing high-end, guaranteed to induce a physical sensory response.

TOKEN88LP - Antigone - Rising

Here you have the new sound voyage in @oscarmulero's Warm Up Recordings digital branch. Again showcasing long-distance travel in the form of an album. It is really inspiring to find that there are young producers out there like that are pushing the boundaries and trying to sound futuristic and original in this mediocre Instagram days. This is the case of Conceptual, half of the Berlin-based duo Beat Movement. 

He offers ten diverse approaches to sci-fi techno, ranging from the cinematic Red Sun and Null Respekt to the dynamic and floor-oriented numbers like Basilisk, Nocturnal or Blue Spirit. To the twisted and abstract Upside Down, Healing Dance or More wants more ...or the tribal and shuffled exercises like Paradise of Poets and Tasmanian Devil. 

As we said, original, risky, futuristic, and carefully done by a young producer that will have for sure a lot more to showcase in the coming years.
