2013 marks a decade of Y-3 and its pioneering sport-style aesthetic—a look that continues to meld the avant-garde genius of Yohji Yamamoto with the breakthrough innovation of adidas. adidas is pleased to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Y-3 with a compilation album in collaboration with Alex Prat aka Alex from Tokyo (Tokyo Black Star, World Famous NYC) and 14 innovative electronic music producers, with CD and vinyl sets specially packaged with artwork by PL Studio.

Y-3 presaged the contemporary obsession with designer athletic wear by being the first to blur the boundaries of style and sport. The music on this compilation achieves a similar balance, bringing together dance music icons as well as fresh faces from the world of underground house and disco.

The esteemed contributors include Frank Wiedemann, one half of acclaimed duo Âme and co-founder of Berlin-based label Innervisions. Eccentric and reclusive maven Maurice Fulton makes a rare appearance, along with legendarily diverse New York DJ Joaquin "Joe" Claussell of the famed Body & Soul parties as well as Chicago house pioneer Larry Heard. Rub-N-Tug are a boisterous New York duo, and here they slot next to Jules Etienne's collaboration with disco purist Daniel Wang, founder of Balihu Records
Other artists on the compilation include Blackjoy, responsible for Parisian sci-fi disco, prolific Japanese producer Kaoru Inoue aka Chari Chari, Irish house heavyweight Mano Le tough, and Jiro Amimoto, who has produced the music at previous Y-3 runway shows. Discodromo, who heads up one of Berlin's top gay alternative parties Cocktail D'Amore, collaborates here with Italian Massimiliano Pagliara, a longtime resident at Frankfurt's Robert Johnson nightclub. Alex from Tokyo pulls double-duty, contributing a track from his and Isao Kumano's Tokyo Black Star project as well as mixing the CD version of the release. Rounding out the mix is anonymous Scottish producer Lord of the Isles and Quiet Village, featuring Matt "Radio Slave" Edwards.

The Y-3 compilation will be released in mid-September via the Y-3 website (www.y-3.com/music), retail stores, and social media outlets. The compilation will be available on CD with the tracks both mixed continuously or unmixed, along with 500 special-edition vinyl box sets and free digital downloads.

Alex from Tokyo – Parisian by birth, grew up in Tokyo, now a resident of NYC. Global. You can hear it in the music he plays. He’s still got a residency in Japan that he flies back to every other month and has been key in linking the Japanese music scene out and also back in. He is also a music supervisor and a producer, working alongside Isao Kumano on the Tokyo Black Star project.

Our Dr Rob is doing an interview with him soon so I won’t go on about this too much hence to say that he has done the new upcoming “Originals” compilation for Claremont which is bound to be good. Here he has done us a mix of mellow summer sounds across the board. Enjoy!

After her stunning release on our deeper House focused Karakul label, we are over the moon to welcome back Swiss producer Lea Lisa on our main Phonica imprint.

The ‘Love To The End EP’ takes influence and inspiration from a particular early 90s UK Techno rarity by Mark Goddard titled ‘The End’ (The Truth EP), a beautiful and emotive take on the classic sound of UK Techno that’s been much loved and highly sought after for decades, even being a particular favourite of Aphex Twin. It’s an ode to the original, rather than a remix or cover. The two mixes re-imagine the sound of soulful and deep Techno, combining driving basslines and drum machine grooves with atmospheric and nostalgic synth lines.

On the A-Side’s ‘Manchester Club Mix’, the focus is laser focused on peaktime dancefloors with a slowly building level of euphoria matched with rolling drums until the breakdown chills the mood and the plucky, earth shaking bassline returns before the tension is released and the melodies float effort- lessly around the pounding rhythm.

Over on the B-Side, the ‘Sunset Mix’ jacks up the drums with kicks and claps that shake your spine. The bassline rolls steadily throughout the mix but the melodic lines this time are more restrained, introspective and subtle, echoing and harking to past rave memories with ease...

For his first EP, Romain FX digs deep in his emotions to pull out four Italo & House infused tracks full of musical surprises.  

Romain FX comes to Fauve with some hard-strutting disco shapes to impart for all you fabulous freaks of the night. "The Drive" leads the way with a nagging, seemingly endless arpeggio draped in subtle flecks of harmonizing synth shapes - it makes for the perfect energised club track. "Ke Ai" is a more emotional number that seeks to tug at the heart strings even as it makes you move. "Fray" brings something a little cheekier with its darting high-register lead lines, sweet chords and airy mixdown - this is one for the terraces of the warmer months to come. "Air House" completes the set with a dreamy, pad soaked floater that keeps that sturdy disco-informed rhythm section intact.

Led by New York and Tokyo-based international french DJ Alex from Tokyo and Tokyo-based producer and engineer Isao Kumano, Tokyo Black Star are truly 21st century galactic funk artists. As their ship has advanced through the galaxy, meeting fellow travelers along the way, Tokyo Black Star have absorbed and translated influences from around the solar system and beyond.

They have released so far 5 EPs on the hi-profile Innervisions label in Berlin, 2 releases on the Italian taste makers' Slam Jam label Reincarnation, "Rainbow/Fantastique Voyage EP" on Dj Deep's deeply rooted house music records label, and various remixes wordwide including recently Kuniyuki "Birds" (mule musiq), nublu orchestra "Sketches of NY" (nublu), Bing Ji ling "Home" (Lovemonk), Master H and Greg Oreck "Coffee is ecstasy" (komplex de deep), Arno E Matthieu "Heritage" (clima records), Filipson+Lindblad "Reflections" (mood music), Wagon Cookin "Come into the light" (om records) and Mezza Luna vs Felix Cage new EP "Blizzard" (electronical reeds) in January 2011. Tokyo Black Star released in April 2009 their full length debut album "Black Ships" (Innervisions) on CD collaborating with the NYC based japanese painter Tomokazu Matsuyama. "Black Ships" can be described at once as a nonfiction travel diary, and at the same time as a supreme fiction of traveling through the world of imagination. Tokyo Black Star remixed in 2011 Carl Craig's Psyche masterpiece "Neurotic Behavior" for the 20th anniversary of the Planet E label. In May 2012 they released their latest "Together EP" on the japanese label Apt. International and their remix of the new Toby Tobias single "Choc Ice for 4" on the NYC label Let's Play House.

Tokyo Black star performs live too and has played live with machines for the release of the album in Japan and in Europe at Panorama Bar in Berlin and at the Robot 02 festival in Bologna, Italy.

Alex and Isao started in summer 2010 a new "revolutionary" audio brand called phonon (www.phonon-inc.com).
