Solid Grooves Raw welcome rising Brazilian Beltran for his label debut with 'Smack Yo'.

As the end of the summer season draws near, it's safe to say Solid Grooves aren't slowing down as the UK favourites continue to reveal the ID's for a long list of heavily requested unreleased material tested by co-founders Michael Bibi and PAWSA across their Grooves Motel Ibiza season at DC10 and beyond. Tapping into South America's hotbed of emerging talent, the label's sister imprint Solid Grooves Raw heads to Brazil for another label debut as they welcome Beltran for 'Smack Yo'.

A firm favourite of Michael Bibi's and a stand-out track from his sets across 2022, 'Smack Yo' is a murky and twisting peak-time cut armed with punchy drums, warped vocal samples and weighty low-ends - with Solid Grooves Raw offering a perfect home for the Brazilian's first label outing.

Launched in 1992 Madhouse Records Inc was a joint venture between US DJ and producer Kerri Chandler and Mel Medalie’s Champion Records. Mel met Kerri on a trip to the US whilst visiting Todd Terry at Idler’s Studio in Brooklyn (whose Royal House project was later released on Champion).

Madhouse became predominantly an outlet for Kerri’s music, as well as tracks from his producer friends and tracks he came across through his extensive DJ experience. The sound of the label was rooted in Deep and Soulful House, some instrumentals but on the whole full vocal tracks.

The first release on the label was a 6-track sampler entitled “A Basement, A Red Light & A Feelin’” which showcased some of the artists and releases to come, and sold in excess of 100,000 copies on vinyl alone.

Singles and EP’s followed from Matrix (one of Kerri’s own aliases), Dreamer G, Christopher McCray, mostly produced, co-produced or remixed by Kerri himself. The catalogue also features collaborations with Jerome Sydenham, Dennis Ferrer (whose recent release “Hey Hey” is one of the biggest club smashes in recent history), and even Jazz legend Roy Ayers on the huge “Good Vibrations”.

Into the 2000’s Kerri put together two albums, the first being “10 Years Of Madhouse”, a retrospective mixed CD looking back at some of the major successes and favourite releases over the life of the label, as well as some hand-picked new tracks from Christopher McCray and Dee Dee Brave. In 2002 a second volume of “A Basement, A Red Light & A Feelin’” featuring some brand new tracks, and some classics, plus a bonus CD of the album mixed live at Centro Fly, New York was released, and gained huge sales and critical success.

In 2010 the entire catalogue of singles, EP’s and albums has been completely remastered and made available for digital download for the first time, including some previously unreleased rarities.

Another Disaster

Foremost international techno outlet Drumcode is delighted to announce the release of its next full-length album, ‘Satellite’, by enduring Italian techno talent Sam Paganini.

Though he has been active since the mid nineties, recent years have been hugely successful for Sam, with searing techno EPs coming on revered labels such as Riche Hawtin’s Plus8, Sven Vath’s Cocoon and of course, Adam Beyer’s Drumcode. In his time he has been responsible for underground hits like ‘Zoe’, ‘Polyester’ and ‘Fire In My Arms’, all of which demonstrate his dynamic understanding of sexy, dark and hypnotic techno grooves and at the same time have earned him plenty of great Beatport chart positions as well as respect from the best in the game.

Incredibly, ‘Satellite’ is Sam’s first full-length album. Informed by his DJ gigs at legendary places like Berghain in Berlin and Cielo in New York, the album starts with a dystopian bit of sonic scene setting, as if a space ship is charging up ready to take off.

From there it’s a case of getting straight down to business. ‘Another Chance’ is a spacey bit of cantering techno and ‘White’ is rooted in devastating kick drums and is riddled with serrated synth lines that build lots of great techno pressure. ‘Down’ is an undulating bit of funky techno complete with choice vocal flourishes and tracks like ‘Lotus’ are prime offerings from the deeper end of the scale.

No two tracks sound the same on Satellite: Sam is always teasing out a new bit of texture, nailing a slightly different vibe or exploring different amounts of light and dark throughout the course of this most excellent album. This is evidenced by diverse cuts like ‘Dusty’, ‘Toxic’ and ‘Rave’.

Despite ‘Satellite’ being Sam’s debut album, it showcases his seductive style in all its glory across 12 fantastic tracks that will leave you begging for more.

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!
