A few minutes of light rain falls through tall cypress trees and onto the flooded forest floor, then very distant thunder rumbles through the Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida. Brief Rain, Distant Thunder

Echoing through a flooded cypress tree forest, first a Barred Owl hoots, and then joins a second to fuss back and forth. Deep voiced Pig Frogs and shrill crickets are a sonic backdrop. Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida, August 2022, recorded with Usi Pro omni pair and Zoom F3 recorder.

Owl Swamp

The endangered pine rocklands provide ideal bird habitat during the dry season at Everglades National Park, Florida. A Chuck-will's-widow intones with nighttime crickets, an Eastern Towhee clicks at daybreak, and while afternoon winds blow through the forest, a Northern Cardinal sings. Pinelands Dry Season Birds

Thunderclaps crash through bald cypress trees as a late afternoon rain storm soaks a flooded woodland in the Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida. This September 2022 recording is excerpted from a three hour late rainy season storm. Cypress Swamp Thunderclaps

I felt so privileged to be sitting two meters from three Buddhist monks as they chanted mantras and played percussion instruments at the Enchen Monastery in Gantok, Sikkim, in the far north eastern corner of India. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River, It is here many Nepalis bring their dead for Hindu cremation rituals. Florida Waves

An asylum of loons wail, yodel, and tremolo around midnight communicating across Dore Lake in remote Saskatchewan, Canada, all the while being accompanied by trilling boreal chorus frogs. Yes those are official names for different loon vocalization, and an asylum is a thing too, really. Two clips recorded about a half hour apart are cross faded together at 3:14. A light evening rain begins to fall in the bald cypress forest and Southern Cricket frogs clack clack in the Big Cypress Natural Preserve in the Florida Everglades. Barred owls softly call, a song bird speaks up mid recording, and toward the end a red-shouldered hawk cries overhead. A 180 Hz shelf in post filters out most of the distant aircraft rumble. Under a threatening thunder storm at the Temple Of Heaven (Beijing), musicians practice traditional Chinese opera, a man plays an erhu or Chinese fiddle (right channel), while a woman tests the limits of her voice (left channel). Night time crickets accompany slowing flowing water as it nourishes the “River Of Grass” in Everglades National Park, Florida. The miles wide shallow sheet of water flows about 200 miles from it’s source in central Florida to it’s exit into the sea. January 2021. Two cross faded clips were recorded in AB Stereo with matched pair of Ursi Pro omnidirectional microphones placed about six feet apart and six feet in the air, recorded into SoundDevices MixPre 3 with -40 Hz low cut and 50 Db of gain.
