Tree Island Quiet Night

Caution very loud beginning :50. The peaceful calm within a hardwood tree island - breezes through trees, squeaky Green House Frogs, and Red-bellied woodpecker - is shattered when two F-16 US Air Force Reserve fighter jets fly directly overhead. A few minutes of light rain falls through tall cypress trees and onto the flooded forest floor, then very distant thunder rumbles through the Big Cypress National Preserve, Florida. In this subtle ambiance recorded at midnight on a moonless night you can hear in the foreground a cricket buzzing and  water quietly trickling, in the middle distance pig frogs (deep wroop) and southern cricket frogs (clack - clack ) sing and echo, and occasionally more cricket frogs come up in the foreground. At 3:11 is a grumpy owl, at 4:20 an egret and at 10:27 an evil sounding bird. Recorded in XY stereo with Audio Technica BP4025 and sound devices MixPre-3, 76 db of gain, low cut 80 hz.

Night time crickets accompany slowing flowing water as it nourishes the “River Of Grass” in Everglades National Park, Florida. The miles wide shallow sheet of water flows about 200 miles from it’s source in central Florida to it’s exit into the sea. January 2021.
