About a year ago, we were all sitting around wondering what ever happened to the jackin bassy house sound we were all fond of, and whining about the lack of fun but quality bassline music to smash at the rave. Well, AC Slater went and did something about it.

The title says it all on this new EP from Slates, a return to form from the producer who brought you “Jack Got Jacked,” “Take You” and “Banger." On Return of the Underground, Slater explores the punchy and wobbly bass sounds that he pioneered, pairing them with twists and turns and gunshots influenced by speed garage and those infectious classic UK bass anthems by Switch and Sinden.

This EP is four tracks of epic quality with not a sleeper in sight. The underground is back. Long live the underground.

The Mechanism

In the current landscape of hard-hitting electronic dance, few have blazed the trail quite as comfortably as Hard Rock Sofa. In their eight year journey they have created some serious musical landmarks, forging a very promising future within the industry and establishing themselves for years to come. 

The duo’s unique, loud, stand out sound has inspired peers and contenders alike, with their hit “Blow Up” achieving anthem status. Being one of the first EDM acts to reach the silver screen, with a spot on the soundtrack for Fast & Furious 6, these hard-hitting melodic anthem powerhouses have made such career landmarks as “Here We Go”, “Quasar”, “Rasputin” and now the incredibly contagious "Get Down". The duo have previously remixed for David Guetta, Alesso, Style of Eye, Example and many more.

Hard Rock Sofa, team up with Eva Shaw who has rapidly made a name for herself this past year. Beginning her DJ career in New York City, Eva immediately began booking the top nightclubs. Her first release "Charizma" was quickly signed and jumped into the charts immediately, gaining and maintaining support all around the world.

The team combines to give a track with a lot of bite. Utilising a catchy 90s revival opening that breaks into a jaw dropping bass assault on the senses, its dynamic essence combines epic synth lines and rolling drum patterns to flaunt a vocal that can do nothing but command a dance floor.

Their live performances have reinforced the edgy power that has cemented them at the forefront of the DJ circuit. After a busy summer the boys are set to close the season with appearances at Creamfields, ‘F*** Me, I’m Famous’ with David Guetta and Sensation in Dubai. 

Fresh off the back of his debut album ‘Ineffable’ DJ Q adds his bouncy fun loving style to the track and his mix oozes with the bubbling sound he has taken the UK over with recently.

Underground music specialists Funkystepz join the ever expanding circle of influence that is Four40 Records; producing a 4-track EP that infuses UKG, UK Funky, House and Bass flavours sure to result dance-floor destruction.

The trio, which consists of Renay & Stimpy and DJ Maxsin, have taken dance floors by storm since their first official release ‘For You’ on Safe & Sound way back in 2010. With releases and collaborations with some of Londons’ finest including Hyperdub, Formula Records, Audio Doughnut and Forever Live Young – 2014 sees the start of something beautiful – the pair joining forces with one of the purveyors of quality, original dance music around right now.

Kings Cross EP draws on a range of underground music influences; resulting in House music with real character, a perfect example of individuality and flair brought to music production, as opposed to the mundane examples weighing down the scene of late.

Kings Cross, siting at the forefront of the EP, combines choir chorus and bounding bass to heart-racing effect. With notoriously funky drum breaks synonymous with Funkystepz, the track is composed with the view to take listeners on a rollercoaster ride of haunting rises and devastating drops.

Bump X has summer set in its’ sights; nostalgic keys echo gently against the backbone of 4-to-the-floor kicks, building an ambient soundtrack for a sultry summers night partying. The track smoothly kicks the vibes up a notch with an up-beat, high-pitched melody that flows back and forth forcing a swing of the hips and a shake of the legs.

Boyz In Da Hood sees ghetto funk slapped onto a jackin’ style beat that’ll have clubbers sounding the alarm from London to Miami. An aggressive dance-floor weapon that consists of rap vocal snippets, choppy snares and a trio of grimey basslines that’ll cause havoc in a rave.

Twister is an ice cold killer. Unforgiving and fittingly named; the track is sure to have listeners twisting and turning inside out to a ferocious combination of metallic bass, shuffling drums and exquisite use of high-pitched vocal clips.

Building on a string of successful releases this year, My Digital Enemy are further establishing themselves as one of the most exciting house acts in the UK, releasing new track 'Don't Give Up' on their own 'Zulu Records' label on 30th June.

Going from strength to strength, 'Don't Give Up' blends melodic chords, stuttered vocal samples and a cool and gritty bassline on the drop that's guaranteed to fill floors this summer.

The Brighton based pair Serg and Kieron, who have worked together on various projects for over 10 years, have kicked off 2014 in fine form. Aside from producing, the duo have been busy on the decks at Miami's WMC conference, where their remix of Matteo DiMarr & Dashka's 'Closer' recieved huge reactions as well as running Zulu & Vudu Records, topping respected house charts with releases.

January saw 'Shamen', receive support from industry heads Pete Tong, Steve Angello & Danny Howard as well as featuring on Tiësto's Clublife Afterhours Essential Mix, with further releases on Vudu Records and Toolroom in May gaining similarly high acclaim.

As producers in 2013 they managed to notch up an impressive five Beatport House top ten tracks. Three of those in the top three spot, with their original track 'Wrong' hitting number one and staying there for six weeks.

With their productions continually in demand, a series of releases on high profile labels such as Toolroom, X Recordings and their own Zulu & Vudu records, as well as a busy DJ schedule that sees them playing amongst others, Toolroom Knights in Ibiza, My Digital Enemy are set for great things in 2014.
