Jonathan Franks
While growing up in Luxembourg, in the middle of the funky sound of the 80’s and 90’s, Jonathan Franks first began to interest himself more and more for music. Then, artists like Mike Oldfield, Peter Gabriel or Pink Floyd made him completely falling in love with it. Passionate by electronic styles, Kraftwerk could be mentioned as one of his main influences for his later work.
Open minded he experienced the upcoming success of a new genre at the late end of the 80’s. Techno. The big boom for Jonathan came after several years of active clubbing, around 2000. Minimal Techno was on its high point and fascinated him in such a way that he decided to start buying vinyl and threw himself into mixing, always looking up to his idols Richie Hawtin, Studio 1 or Matthew Johnson.
2003, together with friends, he founded a new project, a DJ collective, Minimal Kingdom. With their slogan “nothing is more boring than the usual.” they were fast known for extravagant events, theme parties, vinyl only and special sets, the little extra. With a main focus on Luxembourg, their artists also played in different hotspots in Germany and France.
Today, Jonathan Frank's style cannot only be described as a mix of House, Techno and Minimal. Maybe his Italian origins made that his hypnotic, very rhythmic tribal sets got a large touch of Latin, means, a lot of vocals and obsession of percussions. Always looking to keep up the energy on the dance floor, Jonathan Franks knows what to do and when to do it.
