Few artists today are more responsible for the recent resurgence of lo-fi house as a genre in dance music than Harrison Webber, better known as Harrison BDP. His instant classics such as “Decompression” and “It’s Foggy Outside,” along with the work of others, have helped lay down the foundation for a sound that’s low on frills but high on emotion through its superb utilization of classic techniques and poignant vocal sampling. It’s a formula that has shown itself to be well-appreciated by house-heads alike, earning his songs millions of plays on youtube channels around the globe in a relatively short amount of time.

In his latest release titled “Confusion Of Sound,” Mr. BDP fully attempts to explore the outer reaches of this genre by constructing an EP that contains two extremes. The A-side of the record lands on the soothing end of the spectrum, designed with the intent of relaxing the listener into a stable trance that’s marked by lush synth melodies and playful percussion. On the other hand, the B-side seems to be more tuned for the dancefloor, taking listeners on a cosmic journey of euphoric acid-house.

His song “The Flow” happens to fall on the A-side, and fans of Harrison BDP will instantly recognize it as the work of the Cardiff producer. From the length of the song (coming in at about 10 minutes) to the expertly selected quotes used to complement the track’s celestial feel, this tune embodies everything we’ve come to know Harrison BDP as at this early point in his young career. “The Flow” will surely fit right in with his already star-studded discography and help the producer win the ears of more music lovers in 2018.

PLANET SUNDAE is opening up the New Year with a four-pack of space burners from Opal Sunn. The Berlin based duo of Hiroaki OBA and Al Kassian combine again to create hardware based tracks that bounce around the solar system. With an emphasis on performance, they manage to present a humanized sound via their various synths and drum machines. This is even more evident in the live set they recorded at PLANET SUNDAE last year, which is aptly tagged as “Man or Machine” on Soundcloud.

EP 2 is a darker companion to their first EP released last year. While Opal Sunn 2 replicates the warmth so prevalent across the label’s releases it drifts deeper into space than EP 1 as well as Al Kassian’s solo releases. “Serafin” floats along with sharp hats cutting through the reverb drenched arrangement. An acidic bassline rolls underneath, rising and falling with the decay of the hats. Arpeggios climb in and out, providing more texture and opportunities for moments of euphoria that break away from the minimal base of the track. There is certainly a Selected Ambient Works feeling to the track, stemming from the laid back arrangement and consistent hardware noise.

Compared to EP 1, this transmission is seemingly from a system drenched in fog and rain rather than the sun and blue skies. That being said, it still manages to provide some clarity and hope for the duo’s next voyage out into space. The record is out on January 26th.

"Alston is a 19 year old producer from Hampshire in the UK. He is currently studying Biochemistry at the University of Leicester.From a young age, Tom was passionate about music and from the age of 11 began playing the saxophone. This provided Tom with a love for the sound of Jazz, proving to be a key inspiration in his musical productions.

Taking this influence with him Tom began experimenting with production software from the age of 15 and over the years has developed his sound mainly with Drum & Bass, but more recently with a keen interest in the deep house and UK bass scene. Tom’s Jazz influences can be clearly heard in his track “High Tide” released on Soul Bros. Records early 2012, his debut digital release."
