My favourite band since 1989.  Second at the time to the Jesus & Mary Chain since 1985, and primarily interested because I had read about Bobby Gillespie quitting the Chain to form his own band.  Ex-Drummers make great lead singers.  
I love that they have wear their hearts on their sleeves.  First making ethereal pop, and creating homages to bands such as The Byrds, the MC5, then make a super influential dance rock crossover album, then return to the sound of the Rolling Stones in their follow up album.  Then moving on to rootsy blues, and reflecting back the gospel influence always present in their music.  I love that they take risks that are sometimes whacky, but almost always help them come through with the goods.
I have seen them live so many times I forget, and I live in Sydney, Australia, so that's a bit of a feat.
