QMLS February Show

We have something special for you this morning!!

Following on from our PREMIERE of Massey vs Sir Horatio's release "Music Control" we have a Guest Mix and Interview from Martin Moscrop (A Certain Ratio)!!

The mix features some fantastic tracks that the late Tony Allen played on and some that he inspired! We had actually received the mix before the tragic news but this mix is a fitting tribute! 

Martin's description of the mix:

Although some of these tunes would be considered Afrobeat it is actually a very eclectic mix of styles but the underlying influence is Afro.  When I DJ I like to play a substantial section with an Afro influence which always gets everyone moving.

Bárbara Boeing is part of an exciting wave of innovative Brazilian artists who have been catching our eyes and ears. She is about to embark on the next chapter of her career by making the move to Europe. With big changes afoot, we wanted to catch up with an avidity to hear about her motivations and feelings making such a move in this tumultuous period. Whilst also having a general catch up on her musical path, evolution as an artist and what the future holds.

Furthermore, we were delighted when she agreed to join the mix series and beautifully captured a very personal mood she has been experiencing these recent months. Enchanting downtempo stuff brimming with intriguing rhythms and melodies.

Having caused quite a stir with various releases on renowned labels such as Permanent Vacation or Touch From A Distance, Austrialian brothers Peter and James Isaacs, better known under their artist moniker Donald's House, mixed and compiled the latest edition of the art:cast special series. Therefore the duo flawlessly put together more than two hours of music with a Disco- and House-touch that is meant to make the non-exisiting audience in a club dance or how Donald's House said: “[We] tried to do what we play in a club, if there were a clubs for us to play.“ And the journey couldn't be more versatile and intense than this musical piece, without a break or without a chance to gasp for air Donald's House skillfully maneuvers the listener through their approach of putting together music. That's not only how the both like it but everyone else.

Next to take the reigns we have Tici Taci label boss Duncan Gray. Duncan really should need no introduction as he's been involved in the industry for so long you've almost certainly heard of him or at least heard some of his work. Primarily an instrumentalist, Duncan has played guitar and bass on some massive releases. 

Around 2013, after a hiatus from electronic music,  Duncan created Tici Taci Records which is a mainstay of top quality releases. The birth of the label was overseen by none other than Mr Andrew Weatherall (RIP Guv). The quality of the music released on Tici Taci really is second to none and we urge you to go and check out the label and support what they are doing! 

Allow Mr Gray to take over your speakers and provide the soundtrack to this Sunday evening.
