ABOUT OWDGO 5, Next World
Chapter 5 continues where chapter 4 finished, asking if human ad hoc irrationality is an ability and an asset in a world where everything else is computable.

(General) Artificial Intelligence is widely debated these days. But there are only two questions that matter; can AI ever fully replace humans and should we allow for it to do so(first intellectually and then later physically)?

AI is not bound by time and therefore nor in space. It does not have the repetitive need to relearn 99% of everything in generational cycles. Learning is 100% cumulative and can accelerate without disruptions. This ability combined with no boundaries in time/space makes for a creature that can travel space and understand (or even ‘cultivate)’ a galaxy. Are we really prepared and have the moral right to stop this to maintain humans as we know them/us? Moral in the sense, that with AI – which is an inheritance of humanity – will live on way way after humans are gone whatever we do.

But what if humans are superior in a way that cannot be programmed, learned or replaced? The ability to produce a totally random output. This might sound somewhat crazy, that the irrational, illogical has a value. But in a world where everything is computable and computed only the random stand unique. And what if this is central for humans’ ability to emancipate beyond any causal way of reasoning, to find solutions that are just not part of an existing paradigm.
It really boils down to this; either we live in a simulation, or we are a rare source of non-causal outcomes. I mean without a source for randomness, why would we/earth be the first place in the universe (or at least in our galaxy) to evolve into AI (remember AI has no limitation in time/space)?

So, either we are a source of randomness, or we live in a simulation. In any case, welcome to the Next World.

Summer season in Berlin almost seemed to be gone, but came back in full effect for a last goodbye within a challenging year. Final chance to enjoy the last warm days & nights of the year, having some drinks with beloved ones in parks and open air locations around the city. To provide an accoustic companion for a laid back Sunday afternoon, we invited our friends Oberst & Buchner for this year's September podcast.

Oberst & Buchner are two friends and musicians living between Vienna and Berlin. They look back on a mutual musical journey that is as rich in variety as it is long. For one thing, countless high-energy DJ sets in clubs and at festivals all over Europe in recent years have earned them a reputation as a dynamic duo infernale. At the same time, their own productions draw from the full palette of moods and emotions.

Boiled down to the very essence, there’s one common denominator running through the duo’s musical works: colossally massive elements are masterfully set against a shimmering backdrop of incredibly detailed layers. Each so full of subtle suspense that they feel like the first raindrops before a monstrous thunderstorm. You can literally hear the calm before the storm in every break they build up, then feel the force of the wind in your face when it hits you.

Ranging from pulsating electronica over slow organic sounds derived from both nature and acoustic instruments to deep dance pop ballads, their songs are full of suspense and packed with drama. In their productions, the two friends conjure up soundscapes that are extremely dense and at the same time infinitely open and spacious. Within this framework, they play with stark contrasts of antithetic elements: repetition and improvisation, functionality and emotions, emptiness and overload, clarity and crackling.

After a short hiatus post KMAH Radio closing its doors, Spectral Voices finds a temporary home at dublab.

 On this session, we have a guest mix in the second hour from Enkō; a facilitator of odd ambiences and emotions, and an explorer of cerebral ambiences and physical rhythms, manipulating space and energy through texture and repetition. He makes an attempt to dilute visual stimuli and emphasise the auditory, fusing perception and reality into an imagined atmosphere.

Enkō has released on labels such as Subosc, Aarden, Awry, and Warok , amongst others, and runs his own project called Hayes Collective.

Noods Radio - Spectral Voices #04 - Simone Bauer - 28.10.20

2020 is finally coming to an end.. what better chance to use December as a month to reflect on what’s going on in the world and what we learned from it? “What do I have to do to get rid of my anxiety about the future?” is one of the questions which kept the artist behind this year’s December podcast - Soela - busy for quite a while.

Soela is a multi-talented artist hailing from southern Russia who now calls Berlin her home. It is there where she continues to build her presence in the community through her live and DJ sets alongside documenting the local scene and artists through her lens as a photographer. She is an experienced pianist and vocalist who has made a hugely successful transition into electronic music.

Since she took her first footsteps into electronic music, she’s come a long way. In the meantime she produced and released her own music on renowned labels like Detroit Underground, Fauxpas Musik, Shall Not Fade and KOMPAKT. Her productions entail all her musical background knowledge and are hard to put in a box, ranging from downtempo to deep house to techno.

  For Loser Records, Soela crafted this mix from all the tracks she was collecting over the year and even included some of her own productions. Her intention was to summarise all of her feelings and combine them into an one hour long mix of music that she personally loves and listens to extensively.  

To put it into her own words: “I think music from such artists as Efdemin, Leon Vynehall, Hotel Nota, Leafar Legov, and others perfectly reflects my thoughts right now. A bit of melancholy, but still a lot of appreciation to people and this beautiful world, even in such tough times. “

  We could not think of any better way to end this year’s podcast series and say thank you Soela for this wonderful mix and wish you all the best for your future career, once the pandemic has settled.

Revelation of Sound is pleased to present Toki Fuko. His music can be described as mechanical signals are structured in a hypnotic substance. Their constant musical experimentation actor perceives as an analysis of the surrounding world.
Deep techno groove and rhythm sequences, such as information a way of thinking meditative space.
Most unique experience in research in the field of sound was obtained through to his hometown, where the predominant form of various mechanisms: the sounds of machines, plants, industrial costing; and together with the unique nature.
In an attempt to combine these components, it uses electrical impulses and field records, transforming them into musical pictures.
"I always liked the tactile writing music and I've always wanted to control the electric wave by using drum machines locking them into a chain.
And it was hard to get results with the use of virtual instruments, and then decided on the purchase of his first synthesizer.
As a result, it has become a unique experiment in the search for new forms and race for the best sound in order to achieve better results. "
Nowadays Toki Fuko most of his time work in his laboratory of sound, actively cooperates with Russian and foreign artists, and every day are discovering new insights into the modulation sound.

Born in Terni, Simone Bauer is an electronic music composer living right at the heart of Italy. He uses electronic music as a tool for introspection and inner dialogue, reaching beyond the boundaries of the musical genres and flowing over the landscapes of Umbria. With the wind blowing and the wind inevitably dying, these are forming imperceptibly. Travelling the vast distance, minute ripples that seem to have a certain amount of randomness aren’t that minute and aren’t that random at all. Interconnected just as our lives, born out of natures perpetual force, yet in search of equilibrium – an ocean wave. Moving steadily. Ubiquitous.
