Dark Energy

This is a song called DAB which is about dabbing and is in the chord progression D A B.

Back in 2016 me and my two friends were jamming around. Given one of the friends being a new ivory tickler, my other friend suggested we focus on just three notes, such as D, A, B and jokingly suggested the song is about dabbing as well. I liked that idea and later went home and composed the song based on that idea and utilized some of the melodies we explored/conceived.

The narrative of the song is about a character explaining their uncontrollable nervous system condition to their therapist, explaining how certain sounds trigger the motion and render them out of control. However, as the story unfolds, the character gives into the condition and begins to turn others into Dabbers (its sort of like that Birdbox movie with Sandra Bollock, but instead of everyone killing themselves they just Dab)... anyway that's the sort of ridiculous story i conceived on the subway ride home and just went with.

Musically the song is very inspired by The Cure's poppier work such as "just like heaven" and vocally I wanted to capture the essence of The Bravery.

We came up with this song after watching Gone Girl recently and we're super happy with how it came out.  This song has more of a pop sound than most of our other tracks so we thought it was nice to mix it up a bit.  Thanks for listening and hope you enjoy!
